KXIP couldn't make the Top 4 once again

KXIP started the 11th season of the IPL as a dream as they won 5 out of their first 6 matches and were at the top of the table before their week-long break. After the break, their form withered and they lost their last four league games.

This has resulted in another underwhelming season for KXIP as they have once again not qualified in the Top 4. There were quite a few positives for KXIP but few players disappointed the KXIP fans. Let’s have a look at 4 such players from the KXIP team.

#4 Axar Patel

Axar Patel took just 3 wickets in this IPL

Axar Patel has been a match winner for KXIP over the last few years. He was the only retained player before the auction for Punjab. Considering his standards, he has had a really poor season and didn’t do anything significant this year.

Patel has taken only 3 wickets in the 9 games at an economy rate of 8.38. These numbers are not acceptable from a retained player. He has even lost his place in the Indian side to Washington Sundar.

He didn’t do much with the bat as well, as he scored only 80 runs in 8 innings.

#3 Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal couldn't replicate his domestic form in the IPL

Before the IPL started, India played the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka where a few youngsters were given a chance. There were talks about why Mayank Agarwal didn’t get a chance. Even the selectors mentioned that he is close to getting an India call-up.

He was in the form of his life in the domestic season in all three formats, but somehow couldn’t replicate that form in this year’s IPL. The team management backed him and he was asked to open alongside KL Rahul, but he didn’t repay the faith. He scored only 120 runs in 11 innings at an average of 12.00.

He didn’t even show a glimpse of the form which he had in the domestic season. He was an important member of the batting line-up but just didn’t show up and later on lost his place in the side.

#2 Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh had another disappointing season in the IPL

Yuvraj Singh was back with his original franchise after many years. More importantly, he was playing for his home team – Punjab. But once again, Yuvraj wasn’t at his best in the IPL. Over the years, the stylish left-hander has been picked for huge amounts of money in the auction but has never justified that price tag.

He couldn’t make a permanent place in the side as he was constantly in and out of the side. Yuvraj scored just 65 runs in 8 innings at an average of 10.83 and a strike rate of 89.04. These numbers aren’t good enough for any middle order batsmen.

The team management, later on, didn’t trust him as they sent Axar Patel before Yuvraj Singh when KXIP required 38 off 19 balls. Looking at his current form, he might be released by KXIP going into the next year’s auction.

#1 Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch's form was the biggest disappointment for KXIP this year

Aaron Finch was bought for a whopping Rs, 6.2 Crores in the auction, by KXIP. But Finch hasn’t justified his price tag and has had a disastrous season this year. He scored only 134 runs in 9 innings at a below-par average of 16.75.

He started his season with two back-to-back ducks. He has been a match winner for Australia and hence the team management kept backing him in place of David Miller who they brought back by using their RTM card. But Finch didn’t repay his faith and kept getting out for low scores.

This is not what you expect from an overseas top order batsman when you get him for such a huge amount in the IPL. His form was one of the main reasons why KXIP failed to qualify in the Top 4 once again.
