IPL 2018: 5 players who would have been ideal replacements for Chris Morris

Chris Morris
Chris Morris

Delhi Daredevils suffered a major blow when Chris Morris was ruled out of IPL 2018. Junior Dala has been named as his replacement.

Delhi have won only one of their IPL matches this season and in my opinion, Dala is not the ideal candidate to improve their fortunes.

Here are 5 players who should have replaced Morris instead of Dala:

#1 James Faulkner

The Australian all-rounder went unsold in this year's auction at a base price of 2 crores. Faulkner, however, can be the ideal replacement for Morris being a bowling all-rounder himself.

Capable of bowling at the death and contributing quick runs down the order, Faulkner would have been able to turn around Delhi's campaign.

Faulkner has picked up 59 wickets in 60 IPL matches and has represented Kings XI and Pune Warriors among others in past seasons.

#2 Luke Ronchi

New Zealand v Sri Lanka - 1st T20
Luke Ronchi

Luke Ronchi has transformed himself into a T20 mercenary of sorts, representing various franchises across the globe of late.

Ronchi finished as the highest run-scorer in the recently-concluded Pakistan Super League, but surprisingly remained unsold in the auctions at a base price of 75 lakhs.

With the likes of Munro and Roy not really firing at the top of the order, Ronchi would be able to step in and seamlessly fill the void and maybe help Delhi get off to some flying starts.

#3 Andile Phehlukwayo

Momentum ODI Series: 5th ODI: South Africa v Australia
Andile Phehlukwayo

Phehlukwayo rose to prominence with solid showings in the South African domestic scene. He has since cemented himself as an integral member of their limited-overs side.

Phehlukwayo is a handy bowler at the death and can trouble any batsman with lethal cutters and changes of pace. Like Morris, he too can strike the ball long and hence would be an ideal replacement.

The all-rounder has picked up 35 wickets in 49 T20s at an economy just over 8, impressive numbers indeed.

#4 Thisara Perera

Pakistan v Sri Lanka - ODI
Thisara Perera

It came as a shock to many when Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera went unsold in the 2018 IPL auction.

Perera has the ability to bowl with both new and old ball and also return at the death with his accurate yorkers. For Delhi, If Shreyas Iyer fails, Perera could also take over captaincy duties.

The Sri Lankan is also a more than handy batsman, as evidenced by his T20I strike rate which stands at more than 150.

#5 David Wiese

Sussex Sharks v Hampshire - NatWest T20 Blast
David Wiese

Wiese has experienced the glitz and glamour of the IPL in the past, hence roping him in as Morris' replacement would have made sense.

Wiese is currently plying his trade in the county circuit for Sussex and has been in fine form, notching a century and four-fer against Warwickshire.

He was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in earlier seasons, where he enjoyed some success, averaging over 31 and striking at just under 150 and could have slotted nicely into the Daredevils team in place of Morris.
