IPL 2018: 5 Players whom Chennai Super Kings could target in the rumored mid-season transfer window

Chennai Super Kings have made a comeback to the Indian Premier League after a gap of two years. The team got off to a brilliant start, winning the first two games and having a photo finish in the third game against Punjab. The team again bounced back in the match against Rajasthan Royals.

The team has had a number of injury concerns with Santner and Kedhar Jadhav being ruled out of the tournament. Raina and Dhoni are also nursing injuries and the team is struggling to tackle all these injury concerns.

Chennai Super Kings also has certain weak areas where the team needs to concentrate on in the mid-season transfer window that is rumored to take place for the first time this season. The team doesn't have a quality pace bowler to bowl in the death overs and it doesn't have a quality finisher, apart from Dhoni.

The mid-season transfer window will begin from the 28th match and will end by the 42nd match. A number of teams will be looking to fill the voids in the team in this window. Let's have a look at the players whom CSK may target -

#5 Heinrich Klaasen

Klaasen is a good player of spin

Heinrich Klaasen was brought in as a replacement for the Rajasthan captain Steve Smith, after the Australian was banned for a year. Klaasen shot into limelight when he handled the Indian spinners in South Africa with ease when his teammates were struggling to tackle them.

Klaasen hasn't been used by Rajasthan Royals for even a single match as Rahane has preferred to go with D'Arcy Short. He has played less than two matches and is eligible to be transferred if Royals are willing.

Chennai Super Kings are in need of a finisher who can play spin well and Klaasen is an ideal candidate for this position. Chennai would love to have the services of Klaasen as he can lend support to Dhoni in finishing the innings with Jadeja being in poor form.

#4 Basil Thampi

Thampi is unlikely to get much match time in Hyderabad this year

Basil Thampi is one of the best bowlers in domestic cricket in India and is a part of an impressive bowling attack in Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is among the best T20 bowlers in the country and will be a great addition to any team.

Hyderabad has plenty of ammunition in fast bowling with the likes of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma and T Natarajan in their fold. With such an impressive line up of fast bowlers, the team is unlikely to give a match to Thampi in the absence of any injuries.

Thampi is a brilliant bowler and it is only fair that he gets some matches in some other team. Chennai has been struggling with death bowling and an Indian death bowler will be the ideal addition to the team.

#3 David Miller

Miller is one of the best finishers in T20s

David Miller has been the most important player of Kings XI Punjab over the years and he was retained by the team using their Right To Match card. This year though has been completely different for the South African batsman.

Miller has not been included in the side, and with Gayle also striking form, he is unlikely to get a game this year. He is one of the biggest strikers of the ball and will be an ideal finisher for any team.

Punjab has several big hitters in their side and they will prefer to go with their settled side, while Chennai is still in need of a finisher to aid Dhoni. Miller can play that role well for Chennai if Punjab allows him to go.

#2 Colin Munro

Munro has been dropped from the Delhi side

Colin Munro is one of the best opening batsmen in T20s and is also a player who is capable of scoring big hundreds in a 20-over game. He is one of the hardest hitters of the white ball and is capable of clearing any ground with ease.

Chennai has been struggling with their opening partnership, as Rayudu has been made to open the innings. Rayudu seems to be more comfortable batting in the middle order than at the top. CSK needs an attacking opener in its side and Munro is an option to fill that void.

Munro has played just two matches for the Delhi side and is eligible for a transfer to another team. He has been replaced by Roy, who has formed a great partnership with Gambhir at the top and it is unlikely that Delhi will change that.

Archer hasn't got a single game with Royals

Jofra Archer was one of the players who went for a huge price in the auction. He shot to the limelight in the recently concluded Big Bash League and his performance in the league had earned him a place in the Rajasthan Royals side.

He came into the tournament injured and the Royals have stuck to their combination. He hasn't got a single game in the season so far and he is eligible for a transfer.

CSK need a player who can bowl in the death overs, and a batsman lower down the order. Archer is one player who is capable of solving both problems for the team.
