David Warner became the third Australian skipper after Warne and Gilchrist to win an IPL title after his side SRH beat RCB by only 8 runs in the final in Bengaluru. The Bangalore-based franchise failed to clear the final obstacle for the third time in IPL.

RR and CSK did not play in this edition as they were suspended for two years in the wake of betting and spot-fixing controversy. They were replaced by two new teams: Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants. From this edition, Chinese mobile company, Vivo were made IPL's title sponsor.

Batting Records

Most runs: RCB captain Virat Kohli scored a massive 973 runs in 16 innings at an average of 81.08.

Most sixes: In the ninth edition of IPL there was a new addition to the list. Virat hit the most number of sixes (38) in the ninth edition.

Highest individual score: RCB’s AB de Villiers was at the top again this year by hitting an unbeaten 129 against Gujarat Lions.

Bowling Records

Most wickets: SRH's Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the highest wicket-taker in the ninth edition of IPL. He grabbed 23 wickets in 17 innings.

Best bowling figures: Australian leg-spinner from RPS, Adam Zampa, finished with the best bowling figures in the ninth edition. He took 6 for 19 against SRH.
