IPL 2018: DD vs KXIP, Delhi Daredevils (DD) probable playing XI against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

The Delhi Daredevils will take on the Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Monday (April 23). This is a must-win game for Gautam Gambhir and his men, who have got off to a poor start in the tournament, winning just one game in five attempts so far.

The home side will look to get the combination right in this game as it will be against a team that has been doing well in the tournament and is placed second on the points table with four wins in five matches.

The opening pair is likely to remain same for the hosts, as skipper, Gautam Gambhir and big-hitting Englishman, Jason Roy, are probably their best bets at the top of the order. However, they need to step up in this game, as they have had lean performances in the last couple of games and were both dismissed for single digits against RCB.

Shreyas Iyer, who finally came into his own with a strong half-century in the previous game, will walk in at the fall of the first wicket. Wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, who is considered to be a bright prospect for the future of Indian cricket, will fill the Number 4 slot. The left-hander was at his destructive best against RCB and scored as many as 85 runs in just 48 deliveries.

The swashbuckling batsman, Glenn Maxwell, will bat after Pant and will look to get going in this game. He hasn't had the best of starts to the tournament, with scores of 4, 47, 13, and 17 to his name so far.

The lower-middle order will comprise of all-rounders Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, and Vijay Shankar. They are all useful in these batting positions and if push comes to shove, can take their team home with the bat.

The experience of Shahbaz Nadeem, along with the dynamism of Tewatia, will form a strong spin-bowling contingent for the hosts. Trent Boult, who has been the strike bowler for Delhi Daredevils in the tournament, is likely to open the bowling with his seam upfront.

Mohammad Shami is likely to come back into the playing XI in place of Harshal Patel, who was taken to the cleaners by AB de Villiers in Delhi's last game against the Bangalore-based franchise.

This is an important game for Delhi and they cannot afford to slip up in it if they want to keep their hopes alive, in terms of the playoffs. They are at the bottom of the points table right now.
