The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League is set to be an exciting affair. With one decade into the cash-rich league, the marquee cricketers have grown into icons of their respective teams. The franchise-player relation is substantially proportional to their on-field performance. Some of them switched their teams/roles while others are still around with them. Let's have a look at the leading run-scorers for each of the IPL franchises.


#8 Virender Sehwag - Delhi Daredevils

In the inaugural season of the IPL, the Indian marquee cricketers were drafted directly into their home-state teams without going under the hammer. Out of those players, he is the solitary player to have scored most runs for his home-based franchise. Virender Sehwag, initially named the Captain, handed-over the authority to Gautam Gambhir to focus on his batting.

The 39-year-old opened the batting for Delhi Daredevils for six years and was the only player to be retained by the franchise in the IPL Auction 2011. In his journey, Viru scored a record-making five fifties in a row, thereby helping DD to finish as table-toppers for that season. Currently, he is the team director for Kings XI Punjab.

#7 Shane Watson - Rajasthan Royals

The big Australian all-rounder was a part of Rajasthan Royals since the first season until the misfortune happened and his franchise got a two-year suspension following the 'far-reaching implications.'

Shane Watson won the 'Man of the Tournament' award in RR's maiden title triumph in 2008, for scoring 472 runs and picking up 17 wickets. No other cricketer has been able to replicate this kind of performance till now.

In 2016, the Queenslander was roped-in by Royal Challengers Bangalore for gigantic 9.5 crores INR, which was the highest for that season.

#6 Shaun Marsh - Kings XI Punjab

The left-handed batsman is one of only a handful of cricketers to have represented the same team throughout the decade of the IPL. Virat Kohli (RCB) and Harbhajan Singh (MI) are the others, though the latter will turn out for CSK in 2018.

Shaun Marsh was the first ever Orange Cap winner in the IPL, scoring 616 runs at a staggering average of 68.44 in the first edition of the tournament for Kings XI Punjab. His performance led his team to reach the semi-finals.

The next best scorer for KXIP is David Miller who is almost 800 runs behind the Australian.

#5 David Warner - Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Australian opener joined Sunrisers Hyderabad's camp in 2014 and turned into the Captain in 2015. David Warner ended that season as the tournament's leading run scorer, rewarding him with the Orange Cap.

In 2016, he led his team to its first championship, scoring 69 runs off 38 balls in the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore, and followed it with another Orange Cap to his name in 2017. He averages 52.63 for SRH with more than 100 sixes under his belt.

The Indian opener joined Mumbai Indians as a young talented prodigy who played under the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting. After the retirement of the greats, Rohit Sharma inherited the Captaincy and wrote a script for himself after becoming the most successful captain in the history of IPL, leading his team to three title wins.

The 30-year-old has led from the front as a batsman. From opening the batting to finishing the matches, he is the only MI player to score over 3000 IPL runs and holds a unique record of having an IPL 100 as well as a hat-trick to his name.

The stylish batsman joined Kolkata Knight Riders as the most expensive player in the IPL auction 2011, acquiring a staggering 10.9 crores INR. Gautam Gambhir had been an anchor for KKR. holding the innings right from the word go and setting it up for later fireworks. He captained KKR to their first playoffs as soon as he associated with them in the first season and then led them to the IPL title in 2012 and 2014.

The 36-year-old has been one of the most consistent opening-batsman, scoring a fifty in every fourth innings on an average. The next man approaching him in the runs-tally for KKR is Yusuf Pathan, who is almost 1300 runs behind.

#2 Suresh Raina - Chennai Super Kings

When it comes to T20 cricket, the first Indian name that knocks our mind is Suresh Raina, often labeled as Mr. IPL, for scoring 350+ runs in every IPL season, without missing a single game for the Chennai Super Kings. The solid striking of the ball and a rare quality of performing well under pressure has made him exceptional.

Batting mostly at no.3, the left-hander piled up 30 fifties and 2 tons inclusive of 189 sixes for the franchise. He is the first player to reach the 1000, 2000 and 3000 runs landmark in the IPL, is the first Indian to hit 100 sixes and the only player to be a part of the play-offs nine times in the IPL, except for none other than MS Dhoni.

#1 Virat Kohli - Royal Challengers Bangalore

Acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008, Virat Kohli is undeniably the best player heading towards the IPL 2018 and the lone cricketer to be retained in each IPL auction.

He didn't score a single IPL century until 2016, where the 29-year-old went on to score a record-making four tons in a season and became the first player to cross the 4000-run milestone in the IPL. The current Indian skipper surpassed Mr. IPL, Raina in the leading run-scorers tally in that season.
