IPL 2018, MI vs SRH: 5 unnoticed things from the match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad

<p>
This was Mumbai's fifth loss of the campaign

It was a clash between two champion teams in Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede.

While SRH were sitting pretty at fourth, their counterpart Mumbai were languishing at the seventh spot in the points table.

Rohit Sharma and Mumbai won their first toss of the season and opted to chase. The Mumbai bowlers began well and picked up wickets at regular intervals to keep the run scoring under check.

Hyderabad never really recovered from the early jitters and despite Yusuf Pathan's 33-ball 29 runs, SRH folded for a paltry 118 in 20 overs.

Chasing 119, Mumbai got off to a horrendous start and lost three early wickets for just 21 runs to bring the game back in the balance.

Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya stitched together a valuable partnership but once Krunal was sent packing, Mumbai stumbled and wickets kept tumbling and eventually they fell short by 31 runs.

Let's take a look at the five unnoticed things from the game.

#1 Mumbai Indians win first toss this season.

This is the first toss the Mumbai outfit won this season

Barring a comprehensive win over RCB, nothing had been going right for the defending champions, Mumbai Indians, be it winning the game or winning the toss.

Finally, captain Sharma had luck on his side and won his first toss of the season. On the contrary, Hyderabad got to bat first for the very first time.

The Mumbai captain opted to bowl first against a well rounded SRH outfit, who earlier in the tournament eked out a narrow one-wicket win off the last ball in the reverse fixture.

#2 SRH losing four wickets in the powerplay for the first time this season

It was a rare failure for SRH in the Powerplay overs

SRH has been doing reasonably well at the top, especially in the powerplay overs courtesy Williamson and Dhawan’s rich vein of form.

Come 24th April, against a depleted Mumbai Indians side who have been on the wrong side of four last over thrillers, began the game by picking up regular wickets.

At the end of the powerplay overs, Hyderabad's total read 51-4 but luckily for them, captain Williamson was still at the crease.

#3 Amidst an SRH collapse, Yusuf Pathan reaches a milestone

Pathan became the 10th Indian to reach the milestone

It was a tough day at the office for the SRH batsmen as they never really got going and were eventually bundled out for a meagre 118 in 20 overs.

Despite the horror show with the bat, there was something to smile for, for all the Hyderabad fans as Yusuf Pathan reached 3000 IPL runs with his very first run of the night and thus became the 10th Indian and 13th overall to reach that milestone.

#4 SRH bringing on their spinners early unlike MI

The SRH spinners did a good job in the Powerplay overs

Defending a modest total of 119, SRH knew that early wickets would be the key. Williamson introduced his spinners as early as the second over, unlike his counterpart who introduced spin as late as the 10th over.

Bringing the spinners early on worked wonders for Hyderabad as both Mohammed Nabi and Shakib Al Hasan picked up one wicket apiece to reduce Mumbai to 21 for three inside six overs and give the Hyderabad fans hope.

#5. Rashid Khan drops a tough caught and bowled chance

Rashid Khan was impressive today

Chasing only 119, Mumbai were reduced to 21 for 3 and recovered well courtesy two uncapped Indian players in Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya.

SRH were in desperate need of a wicket and almost got one had Rashid Khan held on to a tough chance offered by Yadav off his own bowling.

He made amends by dismissing Pandya in the same over to give SRH a much-needed breakthrough.
