IPL 2018, Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad: Match Prediction

The Mumbai Indians have got off to the worst possible start to their Indian Premier League 2018 season, with four defeats in five matches played. Unfortunately, they suffered each of these defeats in the last over of the match, a couple of them going down to the final delivery as well. The only match they won so far was against the Royal Challengers Bangalore where both, Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis, took the game away from the opposition as they crossed the 200 run mark.

They were well on course to win their match against the Rajasthan Royals as well in the previous match but were halted by Krishnappa Gowtham, who played an incredible quick-fire knock under pressure to take the Royals to their third victory of the season.

The Indians' now find themselves languishing at the bottom of the IPL standings.

On the other hand, the Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a brilliant start, winning their first three matches of the season. Their bowling department performed exceptionally well in these matches and the batsmen did not have much to do. However, they lost their way in the previous two matches against the Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings when they were asked to chase down a big total.

They won their first match of the season at the Wankhede Stadium and will look to use the batting-friendly pitch to their advantage once again and score a big total. Evin Lewis and Rohit Sharma were both dismissed for a golden duck and that hampered their chances of scoring a big total in the previous match. They will look to get back to the form they showed against RCB and attack the opposition bowlers right from the very beginning. They have a lot of firepower in the middle order as well and we could expect a 180+ score from them at the Wankhede.

If Sunrisers Hyderabad bat first:

Predicted score: 170+

Shikhar Dhawan will be back for the Sunrisers Hyderabad after missing the last game due to which they were not able to get off to a flying start. He will look to give his side the best possible start and go big from the very beginning. Kane Williamson has consistently performed well and will look to anchor the innings once again. They have had a problem chasing big scores so if they bat first, they will look to get around 170-180 on the board and restrict Mumbai with their strong bowling line-up.

Final prediction:

After losing four out of the five matches in the last over, the Mumbai Indians will be itching to get another two points on the board and move up the table. They could probably look at batting first and score a huge total and restrict the Sunrisers, the same way KXIP and CSK did. Even if they bat second, they will look to restrict SRH to a score below 170, which will be chaseable for the defending champions.
