IPL 2018: The surprise package from each team

The Indian Premier League is now heading into its most interesting part, the final half where the teams fight for every point. Teams like the Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab have dominated the league to a certain extent whereas, the other teams haven't managed to set the tournament on fire.

All the teams have found some unexpected match-winners. It hasn't been all about the star performers and a few of the other players have risen to the occasion.

Here's a look at the surprise package from each team so far, in this edition of IPL.


Ambati Rayudu (Chennai Super Kings)

Ambati Rayudu has been in the form of his life, in this edition of Indian Premier League. He has scored 391 runs in 9 matches at a phenomenal strike rate of 154. The Guntur-born player has made a strong case for a comeback into the Indian side. He has scored runs both in the middle order and while opening the inning for the Chennai Super Kings.

He wasn't a guaranteed starter in the playing XI at the start of the tournament but he is now the Orange Cap holder. He might be in the Indian team after the conclusion of this year's IPL.

Prithvi Shaw (Delhi Daredevils)

The 18-year-old has been a revelation in the Indian domestic circuit. He is a key member of the Mumbai team in the domestic circuit. He captained the India U-19 team to glory to this year. He is a traditional opening batsman and doesn't slog the balls for boundaries. He has drawn comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar for his style of playing.

He has scored 140 runs in 4 matches at a strike rate of 167. He could be in the reckoning for a national call-up if he continues his good form.

Shubman Gill (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Shubman Gill was Prithvi Shaw's deputy in the ICC U19 World Cup, where India emerged victorious. He finished the tournament with 372 runs and had a phenomenal strike rate of 113.

Although he hasn't gotten a lot of opportunities to showcase his talent, he has shown his worth when he has come to bat inside the power play. He has had scores of 37 and 57 when he came to bat inside the power play.

He has scored 122 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 137. He has drawn comparisons with Virat Kohli and don't be surprised if, he plays for India in less than a year's time.

Ankit Rajpoot (Kings XI Punjab)

The former KKR speedster has been sublime form in this season. He has picked up 7 wickets in 4 matches, including a 5-wicket haul against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He has bagged 2 man-of-the-match awards for his superb bowling. He has been able to swing the ball and bowl at a good pace, he also has a good bouncer.

He has picked up 7 wickets at an economy rate of 7.14.

Mayank Markande (Mumbai Indians)

Mayank Markande has been the talk of the town ever since this year's IPL started. He has foxed out batsmen like MS Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan. The young leggie has been sensational with the ball and has been one of the shining lights in an otherwise dismal campaign for the Mumbai Indians.

He has picked up 12 wickets in 9 matches and has an economy rate of 7.93. The Punjabi will hope to continue his good performances and win the Emerging Player of the Year Award.

Krishnappa Gowtham (Rajasthan Royals)

The Karnataka-born all-rounder has been an important player for the Rajasthan Royals. He has delivered with both the bat and ball on a consistent basis. He has scored 74 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 217. He won them the match against Mumbai Indians on his own by scoring 33 runs in 11 balls at a strike rate of 300.

He has picked up crucial wickets with the ball as well. He has picked up 5 wickets in 8 matches and has an economy rate of 8.09. He has been the X-factor for them and he should deliver on a regular basis if the Royals are to have a shot at making the playoffs.

Mandeep Singh (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Mandeep Singh has been RCB's mainstay in their lower and middle order, this season. He has given them the much-needed impetus at the back end of the innings. He has helped in stabilizing the proceedings whenever the heavyweight top order of Bangalore's batting lineup has collapsed.

He has scored 204 runs in 8 matches at an incredible strike rate of 161. He has been very effective with the bat and RCB will need him to step up time and time again as the race for the playoffs heats up.

Siddarth Kaul (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

He has been one of the best bowlers in this year's IPL. Siddarth Kaul has led Sunrisers' bowling attack in Bhuvi's absence. The Punjabi has picked up more wickets than Rashid Khan and Jasprit Bumrah which shows his ability to perform at the highest level.

He has picked up 11 wickets in 8 matches and has an economy rate of 6.87. He will hope to continue his good form and, come into the Indian team on the back of his IPL performances.
