2018 was a dream year for Ambati Rayudu. First, he became a star performer in the IPL after staying under the radar for such a long time. Then, he got a recall in the Indian team for the limited-over formats. Soon, he was identified as the ideal candidate for the no.4 slot in the ODIs. Even the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, was satisfied with Rayudu’s performances at no.4 last year.

However, everything turned upside down with the start of 2019. Rayudu was axed from the Indian cricket team. Soon, he lost his place in the World Cup squad due to his poor form and lack of "three-dimensional qualities". Now, he is struggling for form in the ongoing IPL season.

In 14 matches, he has scored only 219 runs with a poor strike rate of 90.49. Rayudu’s batting position this season might be the reason for his poor performances. However, irrespective of the batting position, these numbers are sparse for a player such as Rayudu.
