IPL 2019: Most hat-tricks in the history of IPL

It is not often that a player takes a hat-trick in cricket. In 11 years of IPL history with more than 600 games, only 17 hat-tricks have been taken. That said, except in 2015 and 2018, we have had a hat-trick every year in the tournament.

CSK's Lakshmipathy Balaji claimed the first ever IPL hat-trick in 2008. He took five wickets in a game against Kings XI Punjab, which included a hat-trick in the last over of the game.

Jayadev Unadkat is the last IPL player to have claimed a hat-trick in IPL. He claimed a hat-trick in 2017 for RPS against SRH.

#1 Amit Mishra - Three hat-tricks

Amit Mishra has taken a record three hat-tricks in IPL. Mishra was also just the second cricketer in IPL history to take a hat-trick.

Playing for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), the leg-spinner took the wickets of Ravi Teja, RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha of Deccan Chargers in the final over in 2008, gifting Delhi a 12-run win.

The Delhi-spinner took his 2nd hat-trick in 2011 where he claimed the wickets of Ryan McLaren, Mandeep Singh and Ryan Harris in the 3rd, 4th and 5th balls of the 16th over respectively, providing his new team Deccan Chargers a comfortable win.

His third hat-trick came for SRH against PWI in IPL 2013. In the 19th over, he claimed the wickets of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Sharma and Ashok Dinda, becoming the only bowler in the IPL history to have three hat-tricks.

#2 Yuvraj Singh - Two Hat-tricks

Yuvraj Singh became the only cricketer in IPL history to claim two hat-tricks in the same IPL, while playing for KXIP.

The 2nd edition of the IPL took place in South Africa, and the southpaw claimed the wickets of Robin Uthappa and Jacques Kallis in the last two balls of the 12th over. He completed his hat-trick by taking the wicket of Mark Boucher in the 1st ball of the 14th over. However, his hat-trick did not help KXIP beat RCB.

The legendary batsman claimed another hat-trick in the same season, against Deccan Chargers. He took the wickets of Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Symonds and Venugopal Rao to complete his hat-trick, thus helping KXIP win a tight encounter.
