T-20 has changed the definitions and the demands of cricket in many ways, gone are those days when teams had experts in every section. Twenty-20 cricket demands every player to be decent enough at both batting and bowling. Hence, all-rounders are considered requisite and are in great demand in all T20 leagues across the globe.

The Indian Premier League is no different. We have seen a few greatest all-rounders in the world plying their trade in the Indian T20 league, including Shahid Afridi, Shaun Pollock, Andrew Flintoff, Sanath Jayasuriya and Paul Collingwood.

Modern-day all-rounders like Ben Stokes, Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan, Hardik Pandya and James Faulkner have also performed a part in the IPL.

Here, we take a look at the best all-rounder for each IPL team ahead of the 2019 season.


#8 Mumbai Indians - Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya is an integral part of Mumbai Indians. He has been their greatest all-rounder for many editions. A cricketer who can finish off games with the bat and can bowl with discipline is always a game changer in the Indian Premier League.

He is also an exceptional fielder. In the IPL 2018, he scored 260 runs in 13 matches for Mumbai Indians and was the fifth highest run scorer for his franchise. He also picked up 18 wickets in 13 games and was their leading wicket-taker.

Shane Watson has been an integral member of the Indian Premier League ever since its inception. He was vital in the winning campaign of Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the inaugural IPL edition in 2008. Since then, the Australian cricketer has been a regular performer for all the franchises he has represented.

In the 2018 IPL Auction, Watson proved to be the best buy for Chennai Super Kings. CSK purchased Watson for $775,000. He scored 555 runs in 15 innings which was his best aggregate among all the seasons of Indian Premier League. In terms of bowling, Watson took 6 wickets at the economy of 7.94.

In the 2018 IPL final, Shane Watson played a crucial role against Sunrisers Hyderabad as he scored a victorious century to help CSK clinch the IPL trophy for the third time.

#6 Royal Challengers Bangalore - Washington Sundar

Tamil Nadu born off-spinner, Washington Sundar is one of the youngest talented cricketers in the country at present.

In the 2018 Nidahas T20 tournament, Sundar picked up 8 wickets in 6 games. During the tournament, he took a maiden 3-wicket haul, making him the youngest ever T20I bowler to do so far.

In 2017 IPL, Sundar played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants and the youngster bowled exceptionally well in the season, directing his team to the finals.

In the 2018 Indian Premier League Auction, he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore.


#5 Kolkata Knight Riders - Sunil Narine

Arguably the greatest spinner to play the IPL, Sunil Narine is the only overseas spin bowler to pick up 100 IPL scalps. He has been an important figure for Knight Riders ever since he joined the franchise. Narine was a crucial player when KKR won their titles in 2012 and 2014.

The mystery spinner from West Indies has thus far featured in 98 IPL matches scoring 628 runs at an average of 17.43 with the bat and scalping 113 wickets at an economy of 6.55 with the ball.

In 2018 IPL Auction, the Trinidad & Tobago-born off-spinner retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹12.5 Crores.

#4 Rajasthan Royals - Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes probably the greatest all-rounder in international circuit right now. The 2017 IPL was his first edition in the league. The Rising Pune Supergiant picked up him for a whopping amount of ₹14.5 crores in the Auctions and making him the most expensive cricketer of the tenth season.

Ben Stokes scored 316 runs and took 12 wickets in the 12 games he represented for the Pune team. He was adjudged the ‘Most Valuable Player’ in the 2017 IPL season.

In the 2018 IPL Auction, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹12.5 crores and was the costliest player of that season.


#3 Sunrisers Hyderabad - Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan is one of the most experienced all-rounders in the globe. He is equally good with the bat and the ball. He is a dependable fielder as well which makes him a perfect cricketer.

Shakib has been participating in the IPL from 2011. Thus far, he scored 737 in runs in 60 IPL matches at a terrific strike rate of 127.28 and an average of 26.31 with the bat. He took 57 wickets at an economy rate of 7.39 runs per over.

The Bangladesh all-rounder made valuable contributions for Kolkata Knight Riders that helped the team to win the title twice in 2012 and 2014. In 2018 IPL Auction, he was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹2 crores.

#2 Kings XI Punjab - Moises Henriques

The Aussie all-rounder has performed for five different IPL teams so far- Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Moises Henriques was a part of the SRH squad that triumphed the IPL trophy in 2016.

He is a skilled player when it comes to the Indian Premier League, he scored 969 runs in 57 matches at a strike-rate of 128.27. He took 38 wickets in his bowling.

In the 2019 IPL Auction, Henriques was purchased by Kings XI Punjab.


#1 Delhi Capitals - Axar Patel

Axar Patel has proved himself as one of India's leading all-rounders. While he actually found his calling in Indian Premier League 2014 with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) where he obtained the 'Emerging Player' award and was held ahead of the 2015 edition.

One of the regular spinner in IPL over the years, Axar Patel has scored 1765 runs and took 61 wickets in 68 IPL matches. In the 2019 IPL Auction, he was bought by Delhi Capitals for a whopping amount of ₹5 crore.
