Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the history of IPL, having bagged the trophy four times in 12 seasons. The wins have all come under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, in the years 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.

The team has a good balance of players who have tasted success at the international level and youngsters who can deliver in crunch situations. On the surface it would seem that they have almost all of their bases covered.

However, there are a few issues which the management still needs to address. The form of Evin Lewis in IPL 2019 was a cause for concern; he played just three games in the season and scored 48 runs at an average of 16 and strike rate of 92.30. Moreover, Yuvraj Singh has retired from the IPL and will not be available to play next season.

The bowling department too has a couple of shortcomings. Jason Behrendorff has suffered a stress fracture in his back and is likely to miss the upcoming season. Akila Dananjaya has played just one game in two seasons for Mumbai Indians, and is likely to miss out in 2020.

On that note, here is a look at three overseas players Mumbai Indians could target at the upcoming auctions:

#1 Chris Jordan

The 31-year-old fast bowler can be a perfect replacement for Jason Behrendorff. Jordan has played the IPL in the past but went unsold in the 2019 auction.

He can form part of Mumbai's fast bowling trio, joining Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah. He loves bowling in the death overs and is a handy fielder too.

Jordan has tasted a bit success in the past; in his 11 IPL matches has picked up 12 wickets at an average of 24.83. He is a useful batsman lower down the order too and can score quick runs when needed.

Jordan is a three-dimensional player with experience of playing all three formats at the international level, as well as T20 cricket in leagues all around the world. He will certainly be an asset for the star-studded Mumbai Indians outfit.

#2 Adam Zampa

Mumbai Indians have released Mayank Markande for the 2020 season and will look to replace him with another leg-spinner. Adam Zampa could be the man to fit their requirement in this regard.

Zampa has tasted IPL success in the past. In 2016 he picked up six wickets in an innings for just 19 runs, for the second-best figures in the history of the tournament. Zampa has done well in the Caribbean Premier League and the Big Bash League too.

He has an impressive economy of 6.04 in T20 internationals and an average of 19.43 in 22 matches. His IPL average is even more impressive - 14.63 in 11 games.

Zampa plays the dual role of picking up wickets and containing the flow of runs in the middle overs, and would be an asset to any team.

#3 Jason Roy

The indifferent form of Evin Lewis might tempt Mumbai Indians to bid for the English World Cup hero Jason Roy at the upcoming auctions. Roy was unavailable for the 2019 season and will definitely be on the radar of many teams this time around.

Roy can change the course of the game in an over or two with his aggressive style of batting. He can be severe on pace bowlers as well as spinners, and can get the team off to flying starts.

Though Mumbai Indians have two experienced openers in Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock, the presence of Roy in the top 3 would be a truly scary proposition for the opponents.

Roy has an impressive strike rate of 145.12 in T20 internationals, and 133.58 in the IPL. He can add considerable value to an already impressive Mumbai Indians outfit.
