What’s the story?

Joe Root and Mitchell Starc were among the significant absentees from the 971-cricketer strong 2020 IPL Auction pool whereas Glenn Maxwell enrolled himself for the upcoming auction.

In case you didn’t know

Starc had missed the 2019 edition of the IPL after not recovering substantially to manage the enormous work-load of the cash-rich league and the 2019 World Cup.

Maxwell, on the other hand, had also opted out of this year’s instalment but his involvement for next year’s competition is an encouraging sign, considering he had recently taken a break from the sport citing mental health issues.

The heart of the matter

971 cricketers have put forth their names for the 2020 IPL Auction to be held in Kolkata on the 19th of December. Among those players, 7 have listed their base price at INR 2 Cr, namely Angelo Mathews, Chris Lynn, Dale Steyn, Josh Hazlewood, Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh and Pat Cummins.

Additionally, the likes of Chris Morris, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Kane Richardson, Kyle Abbott and Shaun Marsh have confirmed their availability for the 2020 season, with each opting for a base price of INR 1.5 Cr.

Apart from the aforementioned cricketers, a few other batsmen, including Robin Uthappa and Tom Banton would be up for grabs, with the former’s base price being INR 1.5 Cr whereas the latter would be available for a base price of INR 1 Cr.

What’s next?

There are a total of 73 spots to be filled by the eight franchises in light of the players they released a couple of weeks ago. However, it would be interesting to see how many international stars get picked, especially those having listed their base price at INR 2 Cr.
