The flamboyant former English skipper has represented five different franchises in the IPL- The Royal Challengers Bangalore, Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rising Pune Supergiant. Pietersen, who began his IPL stint in 2009 was the joint most expensive player of the 2009 IPL along with his compatriot, Andrew Flintoff after being bought for a whopping $1.55 million by the RCB.

After his two-year stint with the Royal Challengers, he moved to the Deccan Chargers after being bought for $650,000 at the 2011 IPL auctions. Surprisingly, he did not don the Deccan Chargers jersey for the entire duration of the fourth edition after being bought for a hefty price. After his forgettable stint with the 2009 IPL winners, he moved to the Delhi Daredevils in 2012. Pietersen is a vastly experienced T20 player, having played for various teams in the South African T20 league, English county, Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, and Caribbean Premier League.
