The South African fast bowler was immensely popular when the IPL was in its formative stage. Steyn was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008 and he continued playing for them till 2010. He was then at his lethal best while representing Deccan Chargers.

Steyn had a phenomenal season in 2013 for Sunrisers Hyderabad where he snared 19 wickets from 17 matches while conceding at only 5.66 runs per over. Later, his injuries caught up with him and we have not seen him in action since IPL 2016. Steyn has bowled seven maiden overs in 343 overs delivered in 90 matches.
