IPL: Sunrisers Hyderabad's first ever IPL XI- Where are they now?

Sunrisers Hyderabad were the winners of IPL 2016.

Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced former champions Deccan Chargers in IPL 2013, due to termination of Deccan Chargers franchise by IPL governing council for breaching contract terms.

Since their debut in IPL 2013, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the IPL Trophy once in 2016, apart from having qualified for playoffs in 2013 and 2017 and are one of the favorites to lift the IPL Trophy this year.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a fairly decent IPL 2013 and finished at 4th place after losing the eliminator to Rajasthan Royals.

Sunrisers Hyderabad played their maiden IPL match against now-defunct Pune Warriors India on 5 April 2013 and won the match by 22 runs in a low-scoring encounter.

Currently, none of the 11 players who took the field for Sunrisers Hyderabad in their maiden IPL encounter, are now part of Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.

So, let us look at the playing XI of Sunrisers Hyderabad, which took the field in their maiden IPL encounter against Pune Warriors India:


#1 Akshath Reddy

Hyderabad batsman, Akshath Reddy was a member of India's U-19 World Cup team in 2010, and opened the innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad in their maiden IPL match, along with Parthiv Patel and scored 27 runs off 30 balls. Overall in IPL 2013, Akshath Reddy played just 7 matches and scored 91 at a poor average and strike rate of 13 and 90.09 respectively.

Akshath Reddy played IPL from 2012-2013, for now, defunct Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad, thereby playing his last IPL match in May 2013 against Mumbai Indians.

Currently, Akshath Reddy plays for Hyderabad in the domestic circuit.

#2 Parthiv Patel (WK)

The Journeyman of IPL, Parthiv Patel played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2013 and scored 19 runs off 18 balls in Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL match against Pune Warriors India. Overall in IPL 2013, Parthiv scored 294 runs in 13 matches at an average of 22.61 and at a strike rate 115.29.

Parthiv Patel made his debut for India in 2002 against England and is currently the second choice wicketkeeper for India in test matches. In IPL, Parthiv Patel has so far played for 6 IPL franchises and will turn out for RCB in this year's IPL.

#3 Kumar Sangakkara (C)

Sri Lanka's legend, Kumar Sangakkara was captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2013. In Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL match, Sangakkara scored 15 runs off 16 balls. Overall, Kumar Sangakkara did not have a good IPL 2013, as he scored just 120 runs from 9 matches at a poor average of 13.33 and an equally poor strike rate of 88.23.

Kumar Sangakkara played international cricket for Sri Lanka from 2000 to 2015, and is considered to be the greatest batsmen to have ever played for Sri Lanka.

IPL 2013, incidentally was the last season Kumar Sangakkara played in IPL, as he went unsold in the next IPL Auctions that followed. Currently, Sangakkara is busy playing in T20 leagues worldwide such as PSL, CPL, BPL and Big Bash League.

#4 Cameron White

Australian batsman, Cameron White did not have a good game in Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL match, as he scored just 10 runs off 18 balls. Cameron White did not have a good IPL 2013 either, as he scored 209 runs in 13 matches at a poor average and strike rate of 17.41 and 109.42 respectively.

Cameron White made his debut for Australia in October 2005 and is currently a member of Australian ODI Team. In IPL apart from Sunrisers Hyderabad, White also played for RCB and now defunct Deccan Chargers and played his last IPL match in the eliminator of IPL 2013 against Rajasthan Royals.

#5 Thisara Perera

Sri Lankan all-rounder, Thisara Perera helped Sunrisers Hyderabad reach the modest total of 126 in their maiden IPL match, with a quickfire 30 runs off 18 balls with the bat and bowled an economical spell of 4-0-29-2. Overall Thisara Perera had a fairly decent IPL 2013, as he scored 223 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 142.94 and picked up 19 wickets at an economy rate of 8.01.

Thisara Perera made his debut for Sri Lanka in 2009 and was a member of Sri Lanka team that won ICC T20 World Cup 2014. Currently, Thisara Perera is the captain of Sri Lanka team in limited overs format.

In IPL, Thisara Perera has so far played for 6 IPL franchises and was unsold in the recently concluded IPL Auctions 2018.

#6 Hanuma Vihari

Andhra Pradesh batsman, Hanuma Vihari was an important member of Indian U-19 World Cup Squad that won the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2012 under Unmukt Chand, but like most of his U-19 teammates, Vihari failed to graduate to the Indian Senior Cricket Team.

In Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL Match, like most Hyderabad batsmen Vihari struggled with the bat and scored just 11 runs off 12 balls before being dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Overall Vihari had a poor IPL 2013, as he scored 241 runs from 17 matches at a poor average of 17.21 and a dismal strike rate of 86.69.

In IPL, Vihari only played for Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2013-2015 and was unsold in the recently concluded IPL Auctions 2018. Currently, Vihari is the Captain of Andhra Pradesh in the domestic circuit since 2017, and recently scored a triple century against Odisha in the Ranji Trophy this season.

#7 Ashish Reddy

Hyderabad all-rounder Ashish Reddy often played the role of a finisher for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2013 and scored 125 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 140.44 in the limited numbers of opportunities he got to bat. In Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL Match, Ashish Reddy scored unbeaten 7 runs off 4 balls and was expensive with the ball as he conceded 21 runs from 2 overs, but picked up the big wicket of Ross Taylor.

Ashish Reddy played for Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2013-2015 and was unsold in the recently concluded IPL Auctions 2018. Currently, Ashish Reddy plays for Hyderabad in the domestic circuit.

#8 Dwarka Ravi Teja

Former Hyderabad batsman, Dwarka Ravi Teja played just 2 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2013. In Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL Match, Ravi Teja scored unbeaten 4 runs off 4 balls.

In IPL apart from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Ravi Teja also played for now-defunct Deccan Chargers from 2008-2012 and played his last IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders in April 2013.

Currently, Dwarka Ravi Teja plays for Andhra Pradesh in the domestic circuit.

#9 Amit Mishra

Discarded Indian leg-spinner, Amit Mishra is the second highest wicket-taker in the IPL history with 134 wickets, behind Lasith Malinga. Amit Mishra was the man of the match in Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL match for his excellent bowling figures of 4-0-19-3. Overall Amit Mishra had an excellent IPL 2013, as he picked up 21 wickets from 17 matches at a miserly economy rate of 6.35.

Amit Mishra made his debut for India in April 2003 against South Africa in an ODI match. Since his debut, Mishra has so far failed to establish himself as a regular member of Indian Team, mainly because of the presence of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh in Indian Team from 2003-2011, and later on due to the emergence Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Amit Mishra has played 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 8 T20 matches in his international career so far, and last played for India in February 2017. In IPL apart from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mishra has also played for Delhi Daredevils and now defunct Deccan Chargers. In IPL 2018, Amit Mishra will once again turn out for Delhi Daredevils who bought him in the recently concluded IPL Auctions 2018.

#10 Dale Steyn

South African fast bowler, Dale Steyn is widely regarded by many cricket pundits and fans as the best fast bowler of this generation and also one of the greatest test bowlers of all time. Dale Steyn made his debut for South Africa in December 2004 in a Test match against England and has been a strike bowler for South Africa in all the formats of the game since 2006. Apart from that, Steyn was the number one bowler in the ICC Test rankings for a record 263 weeks between 2008 and 2014.

In Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL match, Steyn bowled an excellent spell of 3.5-0-11-3. Overall Dale Steyn had an excellent IPL 2013, as he picked up 19 wickets from 17 matches at a superb economy rate of 5.66.

In IPL apart from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Steyn also played for RCB, Deccan Chargers, and Gujarat Lions and was unsold in the recently concluded IPL Auctions 2018. Currently, Dale Steyn is recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered during the first Test match between South Africa and India in January 2018.

#11 Ishant Sharma

Indian Test pacer, Ishant Sharma bowled an economical spell of 4-0-22-0 in Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL match. Overall Ishant Sharma had a fairly decent IPL 2013, as he picked up 15 wickets from 16 matches at an economy rate of 7.81.

Ishant Sharma made his debut for India at an age of 18 years in May 2007 in a test match against Bangladesh. But the Test match that made Ishant a hero in the eyes of Indian Cricket fans was the January 2008 Perth Test against Australia, in which he troubled the legendary Ricky Ponting with his quick pace at high-arm action, in such a manner that it prompted former Australian Captain Steve Waugh to call him as the next big thing in Indian cricket.

In IPL, Ishant has so far played for five IPL franchises and was unsold in the recently concluded 2018 IPL Auctions. Currently, Ishant is a regular member of Indian Test team and recently played an important role in helping India win the 3rd Test against South Africa in January 2018 by dismissing dangerous Hashim Amla in 2nd innings.
