Kolkata Knight Riders, too, underperformed in the first few seasons of the tournament before reinventing themselves under the able leadership of Gautam Gambhir in 2012. They had another triumphant campaign in the IPL two years after that, when they beat the Kings XI Punjab by 3 wickets to win the 7th edition of the same.

They have reached the playoffs of the IPL five times till now, advancing to the final on two occasions and ended up lifting the trophy both those times.
The franchise from Eden Gardens have never made to the playoffs of the league without the leadership of Gambhir. The left-handed batsman has now moved on to Delhi and Dinesh Karthik has taken over the mantle the side. It would be interesting to see how KKR perform with a fresh name as their skipper this season.
