The Australian right-arm fast-medium bowler, Josh Hazlewood, played his first IPL match for Chennai Super Kings in the 2020 edition. He got to play only three IPL matches in his debut year in which although he took one wicket, he had an impressive economy rate of 6.40 runs per over. Then, in the following year, Hazlewood was given more opportunities to showcase his bowling talent. The pacer participated in 9 matches and took 11 wickets, proving himself to be a key reason for CSK lifting their fourth trophy. He had an economy rate of 8.37 runs per over and had a bowling average of 26.63 in 2021. In 2022, Hazlewood represented the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise. He bowled brilliantly and took 20 wickets in 12 matches, making him the 6th-highest wicket-taker of the season. With an economy rate of 8.11 and an average of 18.85, Hazlewood bowled at both ends of the innings and was immensely successful with his ploy of using multiple bowling variations. He was the gist of his team’s bowling attack and helped them reach the second Qualifier.Due to his exceptional bowling in the 2022 IPL edition, Hazlewood was retained by the RCB franchise ahead of the 2023 IPL. However, he was not part of the team in the first leg due to an Achilles injury and played only 3 matches in the entire season.Josh Hazlewood was released by the RCB franchise and also remained unsold in the 2024 IPL auction. RCB’s newly appointed head coach 'Andy Flower' reacted to Hazlewood's non-selection and revealed that Josh would not be available in the first leg of the tournament due to the birth of his child. Due to this, he was released by the franchise.
