KXIP vs SRH, IPL 2016 Results, Match Highlights & Updated Points Table

KXIP vs SRH Result and Highlights
Shikhar Dhawan was run out for 25 off 22 balls.

Sunrisers Hyderabad who are top of the points table visited Kings XI Punjab in the 46th match of the IPL. It was a dead rubber for KXIP as far as qualifying for the playoff spot was concerned. This was their chance to try out the bench strength, and try out permutations and combinations for the next season.

For SRH though, there was everything to gain from this game. They had the opportunity to strengthen their position at the top by getting two points with a win. As the playoff scenario allows the top 2 teams to have an extra chance to make it to the final, they would love to finish either at the top or at number two.

SRH had defeated KXIP in their earlier clash easily by 5 wickets. They chased down the target of 143 in the 18th over without too many hiccups thanks to a blazing half century by Warner. SRH would stay on top if they win this match and complete a perfect two against KXIP.

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first.

A classy start for KXIP

Two classy batsmen Hashim Amla and Murali Vijay provided a good start for SRH with the former hitting 3 fine boundaries off the second over by Nehra. He was looking in good touch right from the first ball. Mustafizur then came into the attack in the 5th over and straight away accounted for Vijay’s wicket. He was replaced by another classy batsman Wriddhiman Saha. At the end of the powerplay, SRH reached 47/1.

Amla and Saha laid the foundation for a big score

The duo started maneuvering the bowlers around and built a fifty-run partnership. Saha was dismissed for a well made 27 by Henriques. Meanwhile, Amla continued to shine. He was timing the ball beautifully on a tough track and brought up his first fifty in the IPL in the 11th over. Gurkeerat Mann then joined Amla and he too started on a positive note. KXIP reached 102 for the loss of two wickets having 7 overs to play.

A masterclass from Amla powered KXIP to 179

Hashim Amla defied all odds of him being not suited to the shortest format of the game by playing a wonderful innings. He scored 96 runs off 56 balls and just missed his century in the hunt to score quick runs at the end. David Miller played a nice little cameo of 20 runs off 9 balls which helped KXIP set the target of 180.

It was the Amla show that dominated the innings. He played some delightful orthodox strokes and some cheeky ones at times. He was well supported by Saha first and then Gurkeerat. The thing that made the innings even more special was the fact that the pitch was on the slower side and the ball was not coming onto the bat easily. Thus, the chase for SRH was not going to be easy.

A blazing start for SRH

David Warner started off in typical fashion and went after the bowling right from the start. Shikhar Dhawan, as usual, played second fiddle to Warner, as there were boundaries being hit consistently at the other end. They reached yet another half-century of this season in the 6th over. Due to this wonderful start, SRH were boosted to 55 without loss at the end of 6 overs.

Some tight bowling resulted in two wickets

KXIP bowlers after the early hammering in the powerplay bounced back to chip in some cheap overs. Next, 5 overs resulted in only 31 runs. Dhawan became a victim of the brilliance in the field by Mohit Sharma who produced a direct hit from long on to send him back for 25. Warner got to his half century in the 11th over. But soon he was out hit-wicket in a weird manner off the bowling of Axar Patel. Yuvraj and Hooda then had to take charge of the required run rate which was touching 10 an over at the end of the 13th.

Yuvraj special won it for SRH

The crowd witnessed vintage Yuvraj Singh smashing sixes at his home ground of Mohali. Along with Ben Cutting, he brought his side home with 2 balls to spare. Cutting who hit 2, both extremely crucial sixes in the context of the game and ended with a crucial 21 off 11. Yuvraj finished with 42 not out off just 24 balls including 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Deepak Hooda earlier made an important contribution of 34 runs off 22 balls. Axar bowled well in the middle but it was Yuvraj, who finished the game with his big hitting. He reminded the fans of old times when he hit sixes at will. It was a huge boost for SRH having an in-form Yuvraj in the side. SRH strengthened their position at the top of the table with 16 points with this win.
