Shami does not hold any record in the shortest format yet. His stronghold lies in Tests and ODIs where he has performed really well. He has found it difficult to maintain his place in the T20 squad on a regular basis.

He made his debut against arch-rival Pakistan in the ICC 2014 T20 World Cup match in Mirpur. He had a decent first match where he gave away 31 runs and took the important wicket of Umar Akmal, who was the highest scorer for Pakistan in that game. He last played a T20I against Namibia in the ICC 2021 T20 World Cup.

Shami has played 17 matches for India in which he has taken 18 wickets at a strike rate of 19.8. His best figures in T20Is came against Scotland in the ICC 2021 T20 World Cup where he took 3/15 in 3 overs.
