IPL 2018, Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Daredevils: 5 players to watch out for

M
Mumbai Indians will look to secure their first win

As the defending champions, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils look to undo the disappointing start to their season, match nine of the Indian Premier League 2018 will take us back to the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Despite fighting till the end the defending champions Mumbai tasted defeats in their first two matches of the season against the giants Chennai Superkings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

On the other hand, the case with Gautam Gambhir led Delhi Daredevils isn't any different as they too lost their first two games of the season to Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals.

As the two teams are raring to go against each other and register their first win of the season, the performances of these players could help their teams go up the points table:

#5 Ben Cutting

Ben
Ben Cutting can score some quick runs

The tall all-rounder from Australia was signed by the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 7 but he didn't get many chances that season. He was later signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the ninth edition of the IPL.

Cutting made his mark in the finals of IPL 2016 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. His unbeaten knock of 39 with the bat and 2/20 with the ball helped Sunrisers lift their first ever IPL title.

The fast bowling all-rounder was bought by Mumbai Indians for IPL 11 for 2.2 Cr. Cutting was very expensive in his debut for Mumbai Indians against SRH as gave away 40 runs in his quota of four overs without troubling the opposition.

Although at times he turns out to be expensive with his bowling, his hard-hitting ability with the bat and ability to come up with crucial breakthroughs with the ball make him a player to watch out for in their clash against Delhi.

#4 Colin Munro

col
Munro has lived up to his reputation this season

The 31-year-old hard-hitting opener from New Zealand was the first player to score three centuries in the T20 Internationals.

The left-hander has played 45 T20Is thus far in his career and scored 1173 runs at a staggering strike rate of 163.59.

After being roped in by Delhi Daredevils for the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League, Munro couldn't quite live up to his reputation by just scoring four runs in the two matches.

Having failed in the first two outings the swashbuckling opener must be longing to deliver an impressive performance in their next match against Mumbai.

#3 Glenn Maxwell

G
Maxwell was unable to win the game for the Daredevils last time

Maxwell represented KXIP in the last season where he scored 310 runs at an average of 31 in the 13 matches he played.

The dashing batsman was also in a rich vein of form in this year's BBL, where he piled up 299 runs at an average of 37.37 and with a strike rate of 154.

Maxwell has joined the Daredevils squad for their match against Rajasthan Royals after he had stayed back in Australia to attend his team-mate Aaron Finch's wedding.

But the big hitter failed to bail his team out in debut match against RR as he just managed to score 17 off the 12 balls he faced in the rain-curtailed game.

Given his rich vein of form in the BBL and him looking to consolidate his place in the national team, he would like to make it big this season.

#2 Evin Lewis

Evin
Lewis had a good start against SRH

The dashing left-hand opening batsman from West Indies, Evin Lewis, was bought by Mumbai Indians in the auctions of IPL 2018 for a hefty price of 3.80 Cr.

The left-hander failed to make a mark in his IPL debut as he just played two balls before being trapped in front by Deepak Chahar.

In their second outing against Sunrisers Lewis was looking good with his 29 off 17 before being cleaned-up by Siddarth Kaul's knuckleball.

Given his reputation, the dashing opener is expected to get more chances and Mumbai Indians would want him to take their innings off to a flyer to make it easier to enable their skipper to settle in the crease and make it big from there on.

#1 Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant

The 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman from Delhi is one of the three players that Delhi Daredevils retained for the IPL 2018 along with Shreyas Iyer and Chris Morris.

The youngster had an excellent season last year as he finished the season as the second-highest run-getter for Delhi.

The left-hander amassed 366 runs in 14 matches at an average of 26.14 and a strike rate of 165. He was also the third-highest among the batsmen with the highest number of sixes (24).

In the eleventh edition of the IPL Pant couldn't quite perform to his stature as he just scored 48 runs off the two matches he played so far.

In their first match against KXIP Pant looked settled for his 28(13) before giving it away. In the rain-curtailed encounter against Rajasthan Royals, he couldn't quite find his timing while trying hit big shots which in turn cost them the game.

Given his talent and power-hitting capabilities, Pant can change the context of the game in a matter of minutes.
