A Bengaluru-based activist has approached the local police seeking a First Information Report (FIR) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting talisman Virat Kohli. A News18 report has identified the person as HM Venkatesh, a social activist, who approached the Cubbon Park Police Station.
He asked for the 36-year-old batter to be made the main accused in the stampede that broke outside Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, June 4. The incident ocurred during RCB's celebrations after winning their maiden IPL title a day prior.
The police officials have reportedly told the activist that an FIR has already been registered in the case, but still assured him that his letter would be looked at.
An FIR was filed against RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) administrative committee over the stampede at the venue. The news of the activist wanting an FIR against Virat Kohli comes after the franchise's head of marketing and revenue, Nikhil Sosale, and two people from the event management company DNA Entertainment Network were arrested by the Bengaluru police.
As many as 11 people died in the stampede outside RCB's home venue on Wednesday. On Thursday, the franchise announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the deceased and also formed a fund called 'RCB Cares.'
