India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma shared a pair of contrasting photos with a witty caption on social media on Monday, June 9. The 38-year-old was last seen in action representing the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025, which concluded on June 3, with Rajat Patidar’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifting their maiden title.

In his Instagram post, the veteran opener appears serious in the first picture and is seen smiling in the second. He paired the images with a humorous caption, writing:

“Before coffee ➡️ After coffee ☕️.”

Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians experienced an up-and-down campaign in IPL 2025. The team had a slow start, managing just one win in their first five matches. However, they found form in the second half of the season, securing seven wins in their last nine games to finish fourth in the points table and book a spot in the playoffs.

The five-time IPL champions overcame the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator but were knocked out after losing to the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma had a fairly steady season, scoring 418 runs in 15 innings at an average of 29.85 and a strike rate of 149.28. He notched up four half-centuries, with a top score of 81 against GT.

Rohit Sharma will return to action for India in August 2025

Having retired from T20Is and Test cricket, Rohit Sharma will now feature only in ODIs for India. The Men in Blue’s next 50-over assignment will be a three-match series against Bangladesh, starting on August 17 in Dhaka.

The Indian ODI skipper has played 273 matches in the format, amassing 11,168 runs at an average of 48.76 and a strike rate of 92.80. His tally includes 58 fifties and 32 centuries. Earlier this year, the 38-year-old led India to victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
