Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) comprehensively by 78 runs in the 46th match of IPL 2024 on Sunday, April 28. The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai played host to the clash. Courtesy of the win, CSK displaced SRH at the third spot in the points table.
SRH captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first, even though his team has a poor record chasing in recent times. To make things worse, CSK notched up a huge total of 212/3 in 20 overs. It came on the back of a brilliant knock from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (98), who fell two runs short of a well-deserved century.
Daryl Mitchell (52) and Shivam Dube (39*) chipped in with handy contributions for the home team. Many expected a strong reply from SRH in the chase, considering their destructive line-up. However, it wasn't the case as they lost their openers quickly for the second game in a row, which dented their progress early.
The Hyderabad side couldn't recover from there as their middle-order batters struggled miserably against CSK bowlers, who employed variations smartly. As a result, the required run rate kept increasing exponentially. SRH eventually skittled out for 134 in 18.5 overs and lost the match convincingly by 78 runs.

After the conclusion of the match, Chennai pacer Tushar Deshpande reflected on his wonderful bowling spell, saying:
"I mean it was good. When we came to bowl it was just about having patience against this SRH batting line up who were going after the bowlers in the powerplay. That worked for us. Bowling that length in the powerplay is very crucial."
Tushar continued:
"Even if the batter is hitting I try to bowl the same length and force him to play that shot again. Yeah the ground was soaking wet, it swung for a few bowlers but it went away very soon. The deliveries into the surface worked very well. No we had a specific plan that even if they hit the good ball we will bowl the same line. I tried to stick to my strengths and it paid dividends today."
