Ruturaj Gaikwad is a professional cricket opening batsman who plays for the Indian cricket team. He was born in January 31, 1997 to his parents, Dasharath and Sawita Gaikwad. In his teenage, he joined Dilip Vengsarkar’s cricket academy in Pimpri, Chinchwad in Pune. Domestically, he played for the Maharashtra State Cricket Team. In 2016, he made his First-Class debut in the Ranji Trophy. On February 25, 2017, he made his List-A debut in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has also represented teams like India A, India B, India Blue, and India U-23 in domestic cricket.

Ruturaj Gaikwad made his IPL debut with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in 2019. Since then, he has been the key member of the team. He was also the highest run-scorer and the Orange Cap Awardee in the IPL 2021 season. He was a part of the team in the IPL 2021 and 2023 winning season. In 2024, MS Dhoni relinquished the captaincy and the role has been given to Ruturaj Gaikwad. As of March 24, 2025, he is leading the CSK franchise in the IPL 2025. He also won a gold medal in the Asian Games 2022 as captain.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has reportedly been bought by the Chennai Super Kings during the 2019 IPL auction in December 2018. Since then, he has been a part of the franchise. He was retained by the franchise for INR 6 crores before the IPL 2022 auction. He was again retained by the franchise for INR 18 crore before the IPL 2025 auction. He is the captain of the CSK in the IPL 2025.
