IPL 2018, SRH vs MI: 3 Things you might have missed

This humdinger went in the favour of the Hyderabad outf

Another successful run chase scripted by bowlers, in the absence of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, and Shikhar Dhawan in the batting department, even though it was not as convincing as the previous match.

Over-dependence of Rohit Sharma is starting to show up for men in blue who failed to mount a decent total batting first to trouble the opposition finishing in the losing side, despite a brilliant performance by a young rookie Mayank Markande bagging four wickets for just 23 runs.

Sportskeeda takes a look at the three unnoticed things from the match which had a considerable impact on the end result.

#1 Catches being dropped by SRH fielders

The SRH fielders did not have a good day in the office

T20 teams around the world are always built with power hitters and utility all rounders where they look to win it with the bat in the first place and bowling always comes second in regard to preference.

Sunrisers Hyderabad is a notable exception to that custom where the emphasis is given to bowling and fielding.

It was no different today except for the catching where they dropped two relatively easy ones. Deepak Hooda and Sandeep Sharma were the two culprits who gave lifelines to Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan respectively.

Thankfully both of the drops didn’t cost them much as they accepted didn’t repeat the mistakes and caught the next ones without giving away many.

#2 Brilliant Billy

Stanlake proved to be the X-factor for SRH

Consolidation is the word used more often than not to describe the middle of the phase in both facets of the game, be it batting or bowling. The side who wins that phase generally goes on to seal the match usually.

Billy Stanlake is the so-called “X-factor” employed by Hyderabad think tank which proved to be successful in this match.

With his raw pace, Stanlake rushed on to Kieron Pollard, who spooned a catch to Dhawan and getting the big scalp of Sharma inside the powerplay.

There were even talks of dropping him for English opener Alex Hales but he repaid their team faith with a notable performance to prove his worth in the side, not to mention last ball boundary to seal the match for Hyderabad.

#3 SRH did well even without Bhuvi

Bhuvi's loss before the match did not affect SRH's bowling department

Already reeling under the loss of their marquee player in David Warner, Hyderabad had to deal with another one in the form of Kumar who suffered from a sore back moments before the toss.

However, his replacement Sharma, who switched franchises from Kings XI Punjab stepped up in his absence and gave a convincing performance picking two wickets at a decent economy rate.

Other bowlers also chipped in and gave a commendable performance restricting Mumbai Indians to 147 which was chased down by Hyderabad albeit with a considerable drama.
