T20 World Cup 2007 Winner - India
The Indian cricket team was the first to win the T20 World Cup. Playing under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India defeated Pakistan in the final to win the tournament. They only lost one game in the tournament - against New Zealand in Super 8s. The Men in Blue defeated England and South Africa in the Super-8s, thanks to an all-round performance before defeating the Aussies in the semis to set-up a date with Pakistan in the final.
Yuvraj Singh, who smashed six sixes in an over against England, proved to be the star with the bat in the semi-final as the elegant left-hander hammered a breathtaking 70 off 30 against the Aussies. Debutant Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni did the job with the bat against the Proteas while the bowling trio of RP Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Sreesanth starred in almost every match.
The final saw Gautam Gambhir rise to the occasion with the bat, His 75 and Rohit’s cameo helped India rack up 157/5 in 20 overs. Irfan Pathan stood up with the ball as he broke the back of Pakistan’s middle-order while RP Singh was magical as usual in the powerplay and at the death. However, in the end, it all boiled down to Joginder Sharma. With Misbah-ul-Haq going hammer and tongs, it looked game over for the Indians. However, Misbah’s ill-fated scoop was safely pouched by Sreesanth at short fine-leg, confirming India’s triumph at the grandest stage of them all.
