IPL started with a bang with Mccullum's blitzkrieg against RCB

There aren't many landmarks that come close to a cricketer than scoring a hundred. When that landmark is achieved in a T20 game, it becomes all the more special considering the fact that you only get 40-50 deliveries to smash a ton in this format.

IPL, the epitome of the shortest format in the game, has seen as many as 47 centuries have been hit so far by 30 different batters. It is worth noting that nine of the twelve franchises till date have had a centurion in their ranks. Only Sahara Pune Warriors, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Gujarat Lions did not see a playing hitting a ton in their colours.

On that note, let's take a look at the list of the number of centuries hit by each IPL sides in 10 seasons of the competition:

#9 Kolkata Knight Riders (1 century)

KKR has just one and only century to its name in 10 years. The century which was scored in the first-ever game of the Indian Premier League. The stadium was M Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru, whereas the opponents were Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Brendon Mccullum opened the innings for KKR and smashed a sensational 158 not out from 73 balls. That inning set the tone for the rest of the competition with Baz's inning still being one of the most memorable ones. Sadly for KKR, they have also conceded the most centuries in IPL with seven tons against their name.

The all-rounder scored a match-winning century against Gujarat Lions

Steve Smith and Ben Stokes are the two centurions for the now dysfunctional Pune outfit.

The big difference between the two hundreds was that when Smith made his first IPL ton, his side had an extra "S" in its name.

Both the centuries were made at Pune with both the batters hitting their highest score against the same opponent - Gujarat Lions. Smith scored 101 on the night whereas Stokes bettered his score by two runs, staying not out on 103.

#7 Sunrisers Hyderabad/Deccan Chargers (3 centuries)

David Warner has scored 3 IPL hundreds; 2 with DD, 1 with SRH

The Hyderabad outfit has hit 3 centuries so far in the competition. Two of those came from the yesteryear's Deccan Chargers whereas the remaining one was scored by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Andrew Symonds was the first player to score a century for the Chargers, scoring an unbeaten 117 against the Rajasthan Royals.

Three days after that ton, Adam Gilchrist got on the act and scored a mind-boggling 47 ball 109* against the Mumbai Indians. Both these centuries were scored in the first edition of the IPL. David Warner was the first player from SRH to hit a ton when he scored 126 against KKR in an inning which included 10 fours and 8 sixes.

#6 Rajasthan Royals (4 centuries)

Yusuf Pathan scored a colossal inning for the Royals against MI

The inaugural champions of the Indian Super League have struck four tons so far in the competition and will look to add a few more this year. Yusuf Pathan struck the first hundred for the Royals in 2010 when he hit a memorable 100 against the Mumbai Indians. That inning was admitted by Shane Warne as one of the best that he had watched in his lifetime.

A hundred by Ajinkya Rahane against RCB in 2012 was the second whereas the remaining two tons were scored by Shane Watson. The Australian all-rounder got to his landmark IPL innings against the likes of Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. He scored 101 and 104* against CSK and KKR respectively.

Tendulkar also has an IPL ton to his name

The most successful IPL side till date has had 4 centurions in 10 seasons. Sanath Jayasuriya was the first player to reach triple figures for the Indians when he scored 114* against CSK. That was one of the best knocks of season one where he hit a massive 11 sixes.

Sachin Tendulkar was the second player when he scored a ton against Kochi Tuskers, the slowest hundred in the IPL and sadly the one which came in a losing cause. Rohit Sharma then scored a century against KKR whereas Lendl Simmons struck a fine ton against Punjab in a do or die game for the Indians.

Murali Vijay has two centuries to his name for the Superkings

Michael Hussey became the first Super King to hit a century and the second player ever in the league's history. He scored an unbeaten 116 against KXIP just a day after Mccullum's blitzkrieg against RCB. Murali Vijay then made himself known in this format by smashing 127 against the Royals and solidifying his place in the CSK playing eleven.

Vijay then followed it up two years later against the Daredevils in a brilliant 116 knock at the Chepauk. Suresh Raina, an IPL great, then scored his first ever ton in 2013 against KXIP. Brendan Mccullum then achieved a piece of IPL history when he became the first batsman to score two tons with two different clubs when he scored a 100* against SRH for the Superkings.

#3 Delhi Daredevils (7 centuries)

Sanju Samson scored a century against RPS last season

Though the capital side have not seen themselves in the top three in many statistics in the history of the competition, this is one area where the Daredevils stand tall with seven centuries to the club's name. AB De Villiers was the first player to score a hundred for the side when he hit an unbeaten 105 against CSK at Durban.

David Warner became the second player to hit a ton while Virender Sehwag was the first Indian to reach triple figures for DD, he scored 119 against Deccan Chargers. Kevin Pietersen and David Warner then followed suit with tons against the same opponents - DC.

Quinton de Kock then scored DD's sixth century as a side in 2016 against RCB. It might be the knock which convinced the Bangalore outfit in the last month's auction to take the keeper on board. Then in the last season, Sanju Samson struck a fine century against RPS at Pune to score 102 and propelled Delhi to third in this list with seven big innings.

#2 Kings XI Punjab (9 centuries)

One of IPL's forgotten innings

Though the Punjab unit has not tasted much success in the competition, their batters have dominated in terms of hundreds scored. In his Orange Cup-winning first campaign, Shaun Marsh scored an elegant knock of 115 against the Royals. Mahela Jayawardene and Paul Valthaty come next on this list with Valthaty especially catching the nation's attention with his swashbuckling hitting.

Adam Gilchrist then scored a ton at Dharamsala against RCB while David Miller scored a biggie against the same opposition two years later in 2013. Virender Sehwag then had a comeback of sorts a year later when he scored 122 against CSK in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha was the next Punjab player to hit a ton when he hit 115* in the 2016 final against KKR. Hashim Amla then scored two hundreds for Punjab with identical scores of 104 and thus proving his class in the shortest format of the game.

The Universe boss has hit 5 tons for RCB

When you look at the stellar batting lineup of the Royal Challengers Bangalore over the years, it is not so surprising to see them top the list of most centuries scored. Manish Pandey was the first century-maker for the Challengers and also the first Indian to score a century in the IPL when he scored 114* against Deccan Chargers.

Chris Gayle, in his debut game for RCB against his former side KKR struck a memorable hundred at the Eden Gardens. In all, the West Indian powerhouse hit five centuries for RCB in his six-year stint with the club. Virat Kohli comes second with four centuries and that too in a single season in 2016 whereas AB De Villiers is not far behind with two tons. His 133* against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede still remains one of the best ever knocks in the IPL.
