The Red Bull Ring will host the next race of the calendar, the Austrian Grand Prix. The circuit is home to the Bulls, which have already displayed another dominant season. The race will follow the newly revised Sprint Format of Formula 1 Racing. The Sprint Race is supposed to increase racing action and attract more viewers towards Formula racing.

The Austrian GP is one of the most fearsome races, according to the official Formula 1 website. The race has always stayed under controversies for the amount of track limits penalties awarded to the drivers. These are coupled with the irregularity in penalties and lap time deletion during Qualifying.

Austrian Grand Prix history

The Austrian GP’s first iteration was held in 1964. From then on, it had a limited run of races from 1970 to 1987 and then 1997 to 2003. It wasn’t until the 2014 Austrian GP that the event gained a permanent seat in the Formula 1 calendar.

Lorenzo Bandini from Ferrari is the first winner of the Austrian GP. The race has witnessed many historical events in Formula 1. The 2002 Austrian GP witnessed the infamous team orders from Ferrari. Rubens Barrichello was instructed to concede his win to Michael Shumacher in order to procure him better chances at the drivers championship. Max Verstappen won the 2023 Austrian GP.

Austrian Grand Prix 2024 schedule

The Austrian GP will be taking place over the weekend from 29th to 30th June. The race will be preceded by a Sprint Race that awards extra points to drivers and features an intense short session of racing. The Sprint Shootout or the Qualifying for Sprint Race will take place on June 28th from 4:30 PM to 5:14 PM track time. The Sprint Race will take place on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. It will be followed by the Qualifying Session for the main race from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The race will be a 71 lap event scheduled from 3:00 PM Track Time.

Austrian Grand Prix 2024 venue

The Austrian GP 2024 will be held at the Red Bull Ring. It is a toned down version of the Osterreich Ring. The Red Bull Ring is designed by Formula 1 designer, Hermann Tilke. The track is located in Spielberg, Styria, Austria. It is a 4.318 km long track with 10 corners and three DRS zones. The Red Bull Ring extensively rewards powerful cars due to its long straights uphill. The lap record of the track is held by Carlos Sainz, who set a time of 1:05.619 while driving for Ferrari in 2020.

The driver with the most wins at the Austrian Grand Prix is Max Verstappen. He has won four iterations of the event while racing for Red Bull. He is the winner of the 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023 Austrian GPs. Ferrari is the most successful team at the Red Bull Ring with seven victories throughout its history.
