George Russell is a British Formula One driver, driving for the Mercedes AMG Formula 1 team for the 2025 season. Born and raised in Norfolk in 1998, Russell started his racing career in karting when he was seven. After karting, he progressed to the cadet grade by 2009 and became an MSA British Champion driver. In 2010, Russell signed up for the Rotax Mini Max racing league, where he became the Super One British Champion and won the Kartmaster British GP. With exceptional driving skills and talent, he was making his way to the senior championship series.

Russell tasted his first-ever career success when he clinched the FIA European Karting Champion driver’s title in his debut season. Backed up with the Mercedes Junior Driver’s program, Russell got behind the wheel with ART GP for the 2017 Formula 2 season. A year later, he claimed the Formula 2 driver’s championship title and became a reserve driver for the Mercedes F1 team. He made his F1 debut with Williams Racing in 2019.

George Russell Grand Prix Wins

As of May 2025, George Russell has three Grand Prix wins in his F1 career. After joining the Silver Arrows, Russell clinched his first maiden win at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in 2022. His second win came two years later at the Austrian Grand Prix in 2024. His final F1 career Grand Prix win came in the same year at the Las Vegas GP.

Formula 2 Wins and Podiums

George Russell made his Formula 2 debut with the ART Grand Prix racing team in 2018. He dominated in F2 and won the FIA World Formula 2 drivers' title in his rookie year. He took seven race wins with 11 podium finishes and five pole positions to make his way to the road of Formula 1 championship glory.

Formula 3 Wins and Podiums

George Russell did not take part in the Formula 3 championship. The junior tier racing Formula 3 was introduced in 2019, and Russell competed in the GP3 series in 2017. The GP3 series is now called the FIA Formula 3 championship. Russell dominated in GP3 and won the driver’s title in his debut season. He took four wins and seven podium finishes with the ART Racing team.
