Mercedes F1 is the fourth-most successful team in the history of F1. The team has won eight constructors' titles and nine drivers' titles since its debut in 1950. During its early days, the team was not dominating in F1. However, it won the championship in 1954 and 1955. Despite winning two drivers' titles, the team had to withdraw from motor racing after the horrific accident at the 1955 Le Mans.

Mercedes returned to F1 in 1994 as an engine manufacturer. The German-based company was producing engines for the Ilmor F1 racing team. After Ferrari, Mercedes is the second F1 team that entered the sport both as a team and as an engine manufacturer. The team also supplied its powertrain to McLaren from 1998 to 2009 and won one constructor title as an engine manufacturer.

In 1998, Mercedes supplied its V8 engine to McLaren under a McLaren-Mercedes partnership deal. With Mika Häkkinen behind the wheel, the team won both the drivers' and constructors' titles. This was the first time that engine manufacturer Mercedes won the title. However, it was not concluded as a win, as Mercedes did not exist as a team until 2010.

In 2010, Mercedes made its return to F1 with Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg. However, Schumacher left the sport in 2013, and Lewis Hamilton got his seat with teammate Nico Rosberg. In 2014, the period of dominance of the Silver Arrows rose. During this period, Mercedes won eight constructors ' championships, a record for most consecutive wins by any team, and seven drivers' titles.
