Robin Uthappa played his part to perfection as KKR won both their opening fixtures in Round 1. Uthappa has settled in perfectly at No.3 and played two quality innings though both of them were second fiddle to players like Rana or Russell. He scored 35 in the first match versus SRH and scored 67 off 50 balls against KXIP to lead KKR to a mammoth total of 218.

Sanju Samson was another batsman who came good in Round 1. The Kerala keeper-batsman played a brilliant innings of 102 to power the Rajasthan Royals to 198 in their 2nd match against SRH. His knock, however, went in vain as SRH chased down the target quite comfortably. He didn't make too much of an impact in the side's first game where he scored 30. He will look to continue with the good form while wanting to ensure that his team gets the win.

Nitish Rana was a surprise performer in Round 1 but once he started to play his shots, it was simply a delight to watch him. Rana opened the batting instead of Sunil Narine in the opener against SRH and scored a brilliant 68 off 47 balls and held the KKR chase together and set it up perfectly for Andre Russell to finish.

In the 2nd match against KXIP, he batted at No. 4 and scored a very quick 63 off 34 balls and set the tone for the KKR innings for Russell to finish once more. Rana has looked very consistent and his versatility with which he can bat at all positions will help KKR this season.
