Prior to joining the European Tour, he won five professional events on the Sunshine Tour, including the 2004 Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour event at Arabella, the Telkom PGA Championship twice in 2007 and 2008, and the 2007 Dimension Data Pro-Am and Platinum Classic.

Louis finished third, tied with Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, and Collin Morikawa, at the Royal St. George's Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, in July.

Louis quit the PGA Tour in June 2022 to join LIV Golf. The PGA circuit suspended all members participating in the new series, including those who resigned after the first tournament on June 9, 2022, because the circuit had not provided them with a release.
