In the early hours of Dune Awakening, the main way to get a lot of water is by drawing blood from slain enemies and then purifying it to convert it into water. Other than a handful of cisterns in the Imperial Testing stations, there are not many good sources of water beyond the dew limit. In other words, getting and purifying blood is something you will have to get used to very soon.
In this guide, we'll go over the whole process. If you turn these steps into a habit, blood purification will basically solve all your early-game water problems in Dune Awakening.
How to draw blood from slain enemies in Dune Awakening

To exsanguinate slain enemies, you'll need two things in Dune Awakening: the Blood Extractor tool and a Blood Sack. Here's what you need to craft:
- Improvised Blood Extractor: 20x Salvaged Metal
- Small Blood Sack: 25x Plant Fiber, 5x Salvaged Metal
Once you have both, simply stand next to a dead enemy, equip the Blood Extractor, and then left-click to draw blood. Slain enemies will have a Blood Extractor icon on them when they are available to exsanguinate, and you won't need to directly target them: only standing right next to them is necessary.
Each enemy grants you 1000 ml blood, and a Small Sack can hold up to 3000 ml. However, you can craft multiple Blood Sacks to continue to exsanguinate. In the early game (Hagga Basin South), we recommend crafting two Small Blood Sacks.
Later on, you can get higher-tier Blood Extractors and Blood Sacks that can hold much more blood. The Medium Blood Sack (available after you get access to Iron) can hold up to 9000 ml, for example.
Should you drink blood directly?
You can hotkey the Blood Sack in your toolbelt to directly consume blood and refill the Hydration meter. However, this will decrease your maximum Health temporarily. If you're parched, it's often a worthwhile tradeoff if there are many slain enemies lying around.
How to use a Blood Purifier in Dune Awakening

To actually convert blood into water, you'll need the Blood Purifier facility. This can be built by accessing the construction tool inside your base, found under the Refineries category. You need 70 Salvaged Metal to build one.
The starter Blood Purifier has a total of 6000 ml capacity, so it will slowly start converting 60ml of available blood into water. Depositing the blood empties your Blood Pouches automatically, so you can reuse them.
Once it has converted some water, you can either drink directly from the Blood Purifier (by holding the Interact key next to it), or you can put it into a Literjon in Dune Awakening.
