Dune Awakening: How to pay your taxes

In Dune Awakening, you have to pay your taxes every week, to avoid the wrath of the Sardaukar. Simply having a base on Arrakis is at the sufferance of the Emperor, and that means you have to pay for your little spot of land. At least you don’t have to pay for a small sub-fief console for your starter base, but as soon as you move on, and set up a more advanced sub-fief console, it’s time to start paying what you owe.

The process is relatively simple, at least. Nonetheless, if you want to keep your base safe from sandstorms, bandits, and, in the Deep Desert, other players, you better pay your taxes in Dune Awakening.

Once you relocate your base to Vermillius Gap and beyond in Dune Awakening, and set up at least an advanced sub-fief console, you have to start paying taxes. The base tax for a sub-fief console is 2,500 Solaris, though the bigger your base, the more it will ultimately cost. For example, my base costs 2,596 Solari, because it’s slightly bigger.

When you want to pay your taxes, head to Arrakeen in Dune Awakening, and seek out the tax collector NPC, Tamzin Flaxenraad. There's also one in Harko Village if you choose to go there instead. They’re very easy to find, and upon interacting with them, there will be a dialogue option to pay your taxes.

If you don’t have an Ornithopter, you’ll have to fly via Trading Post Ornithopter service, which costs 2,500 Solari as well. It can really get expensive to pay your taxes, unless you have the proper mode of transportation. They do give you a grace period to pay up, but if you choose not to, there are consequences.

If you have multiple bases, you pay even higher tax.

What happens when you don't pay Taxes in Dune Awakening?

Should you opt not to pay your taxes for too long, the Sardaukar shut off the shields to your base. This means you’ll no longer have protection from the intense sandstorms that plague Arrakis, and eventually, your belongings will be destroyed.

Are all bases taxed in Dune Awakening?

If you don’t want to pay taxes, just use a basic sub-fief console instead. That’s certainly an option, but if you want a nice base, with lots of space, you’re going to have to make sure you pay what you owe to the Emperor.

If you're curious what you owe, just interact with your sub-fief console, and it will display your due taxes.

Do you have to travel to social hubs pay your taxes every time?

Yes. At the time of writing, there seems to be no feature to remotely pay taxes, and you have to make a weekly trip to a social hub of your choice. We recommend you use this opportunity to also get and turn in quests and contracts from various NPCs in the respective hub.
