Opting for the latter doesn't necessarily make the game easier since enemies scale with your character level. However, it does provide you with a weapon of your choice and a basic build.

Furthermore, while adhering to a meta build can certainly make the game easier, you're not required to follow a specific build guide. Many newcomers to Fallout 76 are concerned about its multiplayer elements, particularly whether PvP is compulsory or if there's an option to avoid it. This concern stems from encountering higher-level players in the game, where victory is impossible, and defeat results in losing hard-earned resources.

However, once you reach Level 5, you can activate Pacifist Mode in your game settings. Enabling this mode reduces the damage you take from other players, allowing you to escape from potentially dangerous situations.

Furthermore, the game is exceptionally welcoming to beginners because you can play most of it solo without having to interact with other players.
