The Destiny 2 endgame is spicing up with the Frontiers update next year, as Bungie is adding several new modifiers. Players can also customize modifiers based on their preference, giving everyone full freedom on everything they want to play. 'Banes,' however, is something completely new, and is tied to these modifiers. They will be associated with enemies, each one making life harder for players in their own way.
With the developer blog post on September 25, Bungie confirmed the 'Banes' system in the game's combat. There are five different Banes announced so far, two of which will be implemented with Episode Revenant on October 11. This article explains more.
'Banes' modifier confirmed for Destiny 2 enemies
Banes will be an extension of some enemy modifiers in Destiny 2. This means that some enemies with specific 'Banes' attached to their names will act differently when faced by a player.
As mentioned, five Banes have been confirmed for now. They are:
- Meteors: Launches Solar projectile that tracks a player. They can be destroyed by shooting them.
- Shock: Built-up charge on a single target (player) within line of sight. Killing this enemy will cause it to spread to other adjacent enemies. Both Meteors and Shock will be implemented with Episode Revenant.
- Berserk: Killing an enemy with the Berserk Bane will cause nearby enemies to become enraged.
- Punchable: Enemies will have an immunity shield that cannot be damaged using a ranged attack. Players must exhaust this shield with either a charged or uncharged melee attack.
- Nuclear: An enemy with this Bane will start a sequence after reaching low health. Failing to kill the enemy during this active sequence will send shockwaves throughout the entire area, damaging every player.
Bungie has further confirmed that Champion enemies will not hold Banes. Additionally, only one Bane can be present on an enemy.
