Kylian Mbappe: A Brief Biography

Kylian Mbappe is a French professional footballer who plays as a forward for the France national football team and Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain. He is regarded as one of the best players in the world and is renowned for his dribbling abilities, exceptional speed, and finishing.

Early Life

Mbappe was born on 20 December 1998 in Paris and was raised in Bondy, Seine-Saint-Denis in the north-eastern suburbs of Paris. He began playing football at a young age, and he joined the local football club AS Bondy at the age of six. He quickly developed his skills and caught the attention of scouts from top French clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco.

Mbappe attended the Clairefontaine National Football Institute, a prestigious football academy in France, where he trained with some of the country's most talented young players. Growing up, his idols were Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo Nazário, and Cristiano Ronaldo and he aspired to one day play for Real Madrid.

Club Career

Mbappe made his professional debut on December 2nd 2015 with AS Monaco. He quickly became a key player for the team, helping them win the French league title in 2017. He was also named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year. During his time at Monaco, Mbappe scored 27 goals in 60 appearances, attracting the attention of top European clubs.

In 2017, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan, with an option to make the move permanent. He formed a deadly attacking trio with Neymar and Edinson Cavani, and helped PSG win the domestic treble in his first season, scoring 21 goals in 44 appearances.

The following season, he joined PSG permanently in a deal worth €180 million, making him the second-most expensive player in history at the time, behind only Neymar. He continued to impress and soon established himself as one of the best players in the world, winning four Ligue 1 titles in a row and becoming PSG’s all-time goal scorer in the 2022-23 season, surpassing Edinson Cavani.

He has currently formed a lethal partnership with Neymar and Lionel Messi. Not only that, the Frenchman has scored 202 goals in 249 appearances for PSG in all competitions, as of March 2023, which makes him their all-time top-scorer, surpassing Edinson Cavani (200 goals in all competitions).

International Career

Mbappe made his debut for the French national team in March 2017, at the age of 18. He was named in France's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and played a key role in the team's triumph, scoring four goals and assisting one in the tournament. He became the second teenager to score in a World Cup final, after Pele, and was named the tournament's Best Young Player.

He was also instrumental in France winning the UEFA Nations League in 2021. He provided an assist and scored the winner in France’s 2-1 win over Spain in the final. With two goals and two assists in the Nations League Finals, Mbappe was awarded the competition's Golden Boot.

He had a phenomenal 2022 FIFA World Cup where he scored eight goals, winning the Golden Boot. He scored a sensational hat-trick in the final against Argentina to take the game to penalties where he scored again, however France failed to win their second World Cup in a row, losing 4-2 on penalties.
