Apoorv Wankhade: A Brief Biography

Apoorv Wankhade Biography

Apoorv Wankhade is a professional Indian cricketer who plays at the domestic level. He plays for Vidarbha in the domestic circuit.

He is a right handed batsman who is widely regarded for his hitting ability. He was born on March 14,1992 in Amravati, Maharashtra and has been playing in the domestic circuit for quite a time now.

Background

Apoorv started playing cricket at a young age. From the very initial days of his career, he proved his ability to hit the cricket ball. Soon, he was regarded as somebody who could accelerate the run rate by a huge extent.

Debut

He made his debut in the T20 format for Vidarbha in the 2011 Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy in a game against Bengal.

His first class debut was against Haryana in the year 2012 while playing for Vidarbha.

He made his List A debut in the same year in a match against Uttar Pradesh at Nagpur on February 24, 2012.

Rise to glory

He rose to prominence very quickly in his career because of his ability to score big and quickly. In the 2012 CK Nayudu tournament, he was the leading run scorer with 466 runs scored at an average of 52.

Because of this quick-scoring ability and his agility as a fielder, he grabbed huge amount of attention. Soon, he came into the eyes of IPL franchises and in the same year, i.e. 2012, he was hired by the Mumbai Indians franchise for the 5th edition of the Indian Premier League. Although he didn’t play a game, it meant a lot to a player who had just made his debut.

Low points

Although his ability to score quickly was his strength, but it became his weakness as well. He lost his place in the Ranji side because he was seen as shorter format player only.

He could not play long innings and thus was not given chances in the longer formats. However, he kept playing the shorter formats of the game.

Club career

He was bought by Mumbai Indians in the year and stayed with them for three years but didn’t get a game. Recently, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for the base price of 20 lakhs for IPL 2018.
