Dustin Patrick Runnels is an American professional wrestler signed with AEW. He is best known for his work with WCW, WWE, TNA, and AEW. He belongs to the Rhodes Family.

Professional Wrestling Career

Early Years (1988-1991)

Runnels began his wrestling journey in 1988 and worked in several independent promotions and worked as an enhancement talent in WCW and WWF. In 1992, Runnels signed a contract with WCW.

WCW (1991-1995) (1999-2001)

Championships (1991-1995)

Runnels began working under the name of Dustin Rhodes and formed a tag team with Barry Windham. At Clash of Champions VII, Dustin and Ricky Steamboat won the WCW World Tag Team Championships from The Enforcers. In 1992, Rhodes and Windham unified the WCW and NWA World Tag Team Championships by defeating Steve Williams and Terry Gordy.

In 1993, Rhodes began his journey towards this WCW United States Championship. Rhodes won his first United States Championship by defeating Ricky Steamboat and second title by defeating Rick Rude. After losing the title, Rhodes was no longer in any major feuds and spent the next two years in tag team matches and left the company.


Return (1999-2001)

After returning, Runnels went by a new character called Seven. However, the broadcasting partners asked him to scrap the character as it sent the wrong message to the viewers. Runnels began wrestling as The American Nightmare Dustin Rhodes until his departure in 2001.


WWF (1995-1999)

After signing with WWF, they repackaged Runnels into a new character called Goldust. Goldust made his debut in October and began feuding with Razor Ramon. At Royal Rumble, Goldust won the WWF Intercontinental Championship. At WrestleMania XII, Goldust lost to Roddy Piper in a Hollywood Brawl match.

Goldust began feuding with The Undertaker and Hunter Hearst Helmsley but failed to win. In 1997, Goldust began the talks of getting a breast implant to enhance his character but was talked out of it by Vince McMahon. He won his third Intercontinental Championship by defeating Road Dogg. In 1999, he left the company.


Various Promotions (2001–2002, 2003–2009)

Runnels have worked for several independent promotions, such as TNA, AJPW, and Turnbuckle Wrestling, between these years.

WWE (2001-2003, 2008-2019)

Championships (2001-2003)

After the merger of WCW, Runnels returned to WWF and began working. He won the WWF Hardcore Championship on nine different occasions. In 2002, Goldust formed a tag team with Booker T and won the World Tag Team Championships. The team disbanded when they lost the title and they drafted Booker T to SmackDown.


Return, Million Dollar Champion and NXT (2008-2012)

In 2008, Goldust returned to WWE and began wrestling as a full-time performer. In 2009, he was drafted to ECW and wrestled under the brand for a year. In 2010, they drafted him to SmackDown. After wrestling for a year, they drafted him to RAW, where he began feuding with Ted DiBiase. He defeated DiBiase to win the Million Dollar Championship and lost to DiBiase at the next PPV.

Goldust began an on-screen relationship with Aksana in NXT. The two got married on-screen, but Aksana turned on him and filed for a divorce. Runnels went as a backstage producer after his storyline with Aksana due to an injury.


The Sheild, Stardust and Various Feuds (2013-2019)

Runnels returned as Goldust to assist his brother, Cody Rhodes, against The Shield. The Shield attacked the Rhodes Family and was set to face the brothers. At Battleground, Cody Rhodes and Goldust defeated The Shield to win the WWE Tag Team Championship.

After losing the titles to The New Age Outlaws, the team could not perform as a tag team. After failing as the tag team partner of Goldust, Cody rebranded himself as Stardust. The duo worked well and defeated several teams. At Night of Champions, Gold and Stardust defeated The Usos to win the WWE Tag Team Championship.


At Survivor Series, they lost the title to The Miz and Damien Mizdow. After a series of losses, Stardust turned on Goldust. At Fastlane, Goldust defeated Stardust. The rivalry concluded on RAW, when Stardust defeated Goldust and attacked Dusty Rhodes. After 2015, Goldust was used as an enhancement talent on RAW and SmackDown.

In 2016, Goldust formed a tag team with R-Truth called The Golden Truth. The team lasted for over six months but failed to win the RAW Tag Team Championships. The team broke up when Goldust turned on R-Truth. Goldust spent his last years as an enhancement talent and teamed up with various new superstars before departing.


AEW (2019-Present)

In 2019, Runnels signed with AEW. At Double or Nothing, Dustin Rhodes faced Cody but lost. Dustin assisted Cody frequently and formed a stable called The Nightmare Family. He began teaming up with QT Marshall and formed The Natural Nightmares.

Dustin spent a year teaming with Marshall on various occasions until Marshall turned on Dustin and Cody Rhodes. Dustin faced QT Marshall but lost. In 2021, Dustin returned to television and faced Sammy Guvera for the interim TNT Championship and lost.
