Jeremy Peña was born on September 22 1997 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He moved to Rhode Island when he was just nine years old.


He played college baseball at University of Maine. He declined the offer of signing with the Atlanta Braves in 2015, instead opting to go to Maine. As a freshman, Peña started in 55 games, batting .283 with one home run, 15 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. He also played in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. He was also part of the Chatham Anglers. Jeremy Peña was selected by the Houston Astros in the third round of the 2018 draft following a productive collegiate career. He made his Major League debut with the Houston Astros on April 7, 2022.


Since his debut, Peña has advanced to become one of the most sought-after shortstops in the league. After winning the World Series MVP Award for the Astros' victory against the Philadelphia Phillies in a series that featured his prodigious hitting, his reputation reached new heights.

Before moving to Providence, Rhode Island, with his family when he was nine years old, Jeremy Peña was born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Jeremy competed in baseball, cross country, and track at Providence's Classical High School. He batted .352 in 2014, his junior year.


In 2015, he hit .390 with two home runs as a senior. Later, he was chosen by the Atlanta Braves in the 39th round of the 2015 MLB draft after his senior season; however, he declined to sign. Rather, he enrolled at the University of Maine and played collegiate baseball. Pena made the America East Conference All-Rookie Team in 2016 as a freshman at Maine, starting 55 games, playing in 55 of them, batting .283 with one home run, 15 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases. He also made the America East Conference All-Rookie Team that year.


He competed with the Plymouth Pilgrims in the New England Collegiate Baseball League that summer. Peña's second season of 2017 saw him make 54 starts while hitting .319 with six home runs and 32 RBIs. After the season, he played for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he was named an All-Star. As a junior, he started 54 games again in 2018, hitting.308/.393/.469 with five home runs, 28 RBIs, and ten stolen bases, earning Second-Team American East recognition.
