Yasir Hameed: A Brief Biography
Yasir Hameed Biography
Yasir Hameed Qureshi a Pakistani right handed batsman. He was born on 28th of February, 1978 in Peshawar.
Debut
Yasir had a great start to his international cricket after making his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2003 just few months after his ODI debut against New Zealand the same year.
He scored 2 centuries in his Test debut against Bangladesh, the only player to do so after Lawrence Rowe.
Rise to glory
Yasir was highly regarded for his batting abilities. He became the fastest Asian batsman to reach 1000 runs in ODIs.
In the year 2007, Yasir played an important role in Pakistan A winning over Australia A in a 3-0 whitewash.
After being dropped, he came back to the side in the final of the Bank Alfalah Series against England in 2006 scoring 57 runs in the final.
He was dropped again and only returned to the side in the fourth ODI against West Indies in 2006 as he scored a conservative knock of 71 runs from 118 balls.
Low points
Though a master driver he was, he failed to score on several occasions, resulting in him being dropped from the side.
However he again got back the spot after a good run in the domestic circuit. Lack of consistency took his cricketing career away and he didn’t play an international game after 2010.
Owing to his poor performance in the series against India in 2007, he was dropped from the limited overs format. Although he made a comeback to the squad, he was only restricted to the bench.
Records
The first batsman to score 50+ scores in all 5 matches of an ODI series, he was also a part of 4 successive 100+ opening partnerships.
He is the second fastest Asian batsmen to reach 1000 ODI runs.
