Pokemon Horizons Episode 47 aired in Japan on April 19, 2024, marking the beginning of Liko's journey in the Terastal Debut arc with a bang. After a bit of setup in the previous episode, Episode 47 sees Liko and her friends arriving in Cortondo, where our young protagonist must undertake a battle against the town's gym leader Katy, hoping to learn a bit about Terastallization along the way.

After a relatively milquetoast initial episode of the series' latest story arc, Episode 47 makes it clear that there's still plenty of action for the series and its cast of colorful characters. This episode even has a few twists that fans may not have expected, so it's best to delve into a recap of the events as they unfolded in a Pokemon Horizons Episode 47 recap.

After a tiring journey from Mesagoza City and Naranja Academy, Liko, Roy, and Dot finally arrive in Cortondo to begin our Pokemon Horizons Episode 47 recap. The gang stops by for some sweets at the Patisserie Soapberry, running into Murdock of the Rising Volt Tacklers, who explains that he took a side job while the Brave Olivine continues repairs after the attack from the Black Rayquaza.

The conversation comes to a halt when it is revealed that the Explorer Coral is causing a ruckus because the patisserie ran out of sweets in stock. Murdock speaks with the proprietor, who is revealed to be Katy, the Cortondo gym leader. Coral demands to battle her before Liko, but Katy states that she can only battle one of them for the day, so Coral decides she wants to battle Liko instead.

Liko agrees, and our Pokemon Horizons hero asks Katy if she can try out Terastallization before their gym battle. However, per Terastal Training curriculum rules, Terastallization can only be used against gym leaders. Instead, Katy suggests that Liko and Coral battle in a cake-baking contest.

Thanks to the work of Murdock in past Pokemon Horizons episodes, Liko and Floragato manage to remember how to make a matcha cake and manage to do so. Coral fails at baking, and she goes into a tantrum and makes her Glalie attempt to freeze the bakery before Katy intervenes, leading the capricious Explorer to stomp out of the establishment.

Katy decides with Coral gone that she'll take on Liko in a Cortondo gym battle. Liko and Floragato have their matcha cake and are surprised at how good it tastes, with Katy stating that putting love into one's work excels at both baking and Pokemon battling. The Pokemon Horizons Episode 47 recap continues in the Cortondo gym arena.

While Dot is concerned that Liko's Floragato will be at a disadvantage since Katy usually uses Bug-type Pokemon, Katy surprises the onlookers by sending out a Teddiursa instead. Even though it's a Normal-type, Teddiursa proves to be an impressive combatant, immediately putting Floragato on its heels, and leaving Liko's companions to wonder if Liko will have time to Terastallize Floragato.

By the tactical use of Magical Leaf, our hero seizes the opportunity and uses her Tera Orb to Terastallize Floragato with a Grass Tera Type. While Liko and Floragato are initially excited, Katy seizes the upper hand by Terastallizing Teddiursa into a Bug Tera Type, tilting the type matchup in Teddiursa's favor, which it uses to take out Floragato with a Fury Cutter attack.

Liko crouches over to Floragato and apologizes to her partner Pokemon for letting it down. Katy intervenes to tell Liko that despite losing the battle, she passed her first step in the Terastal Training course. This is because she demonstrated perfect harmony with her Pokemon during the battle and used Terastallization at the most opportune time. Katy stamps Liko's Rotom Phone with a sign of her progress.

Our Pokemon Horizons Episode 47 recap concludes with Liko thanking Katy for her wisdom and the group coming together for some more baked treats. Our heroes camp outside Cortondo wound up from the day's events. Roy and Fuecoco are particularly fired up, looking forward to returning to Artazon to re-challenge the gym leader Brassius, whom Roy previously lost to in Episode 10.
