Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Regulation Set G is the seventh ruleset of competitive play in Gen IX and will be applied from May 1, 2024. Previous regulations lasted approximately three to four months, with its predecessor, Regulation F running for almost four months. This new format will allow the usage of some never-seen-before Pocket Monsters in competitive play, including the Scarlet and Violet box legendaries, Koraidon and Miraidon.

When does Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Regulation Set G start and end?

Regulation Set G of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will kick off on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, and end on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

During this period all official tournaments including the Pokemon World Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii—to be held between August 16–18, 2024—will follow this ruleset.


All permitted Pokemon in Regulation Set G

You can use any Pocket Monster eligible under the following categories during the Regulation Set G ruleset:

  • All Pokemon (#001-400) in the Paldea Pokedex
  • All Pokemon (#001-200) in the Kitakami Pokédex
  • All Pokemon (#001-242) in the Blueberry Pokedex (except Pecharunt)
  • Eligible Pokémon (available through Pokémon HOME or events)

Rules for team building in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Regulation Set G:

  • You can use any Pocket Monster obtained in Scarlet and Violet; imported via Pokemon HOME; or received through an official event or distribution.
  • Pocket Monsters can use of move or Ability available to that Pokémon through normal gameplay. This includes event-exclusive moves and Abilities as well as Hidden Abilities.
  • All Pocket Monsters above and below level 50 will be auto-levelled to level 50 during battle.
  • Each member of the team can hold an Item, but no two members can hold the same item.
  • Two Pokemon of the same species (even if they are different forms) cannot be part of the same team. For example, Heat Rotom and Wash Rotom are not allowed on the same team, as they are still both Rotom.

What are Restricted Legendary Pokemon in Regulation Set G?

Restricted Legendary Pokemon are box Legendaries and other beasts with extreme power levels that trainers were unable to take part in competitive battles up to Regulation F.

Starting with Regulation G, each team is eligible to have a maximum of one Restricted Legendary Pokemon from the aforementioned list.
