EmotICONS at IPL

The great Indian reality show is underway. Many say that this edition has been the most unpredictable till now, with fortunes swinging from one team to another. However, some of the icons of the IPL have shown some unique, distinguished and peculiar emotions throughout all seasons, that one can very accurately predict the responses from these men next time any event ( Citi moment of success/DLF maximum/Karbonn Kamaal, etc etc ) happen.

The Silent Assassin

Looking at the big Jamaican in royal red jersey, one just gets the feeling ( no particular commentator implied here) that he is totally unaware or indifferent to the scheme of things happening on the field. He maintains a poker face, be it while defending the once in a blue-moon delivery or while sending the red cherry close to the neighboring states’ border. Infact the unlucky bowler shows much more emotions than the big fellow himself. So, next time don’t be surprised if after hitting the bowler for 5 consecutive sixes, the big Jamaican appears as if he has just been forcibly woken up from a deep slumber.

The Cool Customer

Yet another guy who has failed in the test of displaying of emotions. Captain courageous of Chennai. Last evening, the team needed 2 balls off the last delivery, yet the captain scored the winning runs with such calm & composure as though there were at least a dozen deliveries to spare. He seems like a duck; cool, calm on the outside but vigorously pumped up from the inside. Perhaps, this cool relatively emotionless nature has helped team India & CSK over these years.

The Wall’s determination

Over the past decades, he has been labelled a test match player. The Wall’s performances in IPL have a different story to tell. He has been the unnoticed hero in IPL. He may not hit the DLF maximums, but has strike rate & averages, better than quite a few expensive T20 specialists. He values his wicket a lot. No wonder, he feels disgusted, frustrated & agitated with himself whenever he loses his wicket playing a loose shot. Haven’t seen any other batsman feeling so bad after throwing their wicket. He probably feels bad on getting out to shots, he had never attempted to play in his illustrious Test career. He is adjusting very well to this format & remains one of the greatest fighters of the game.

Work hard, party harder

This seems to be the mantra of our great captain Dada. He was written off after being dropped from KKR, people challenged his place in PWI in the first place, forget captaincy. He has as always proved every critic wrong. He celebrated the dismissal of KP just like a little kid celebrates the wicket of the big bully in gully cricket. He celebrates those Citi moments of success as if there is no tomorrow. First display of such emotions was way back in 2002 after that glorious chase. Haven’t seen many captain celebrate the way Dada does. But haven’t seen many other captains motivate his players the way he does, nor the success he has enjoyed as a captain over these years.

Excess Adrenaline rush

We have heard hundreds of commentators till date. Some invent new English phrases while some have ready cliches available with them. We get excited in a T20 match but no one can beat the man who has done his PhD in DECM (Display of excitement while commentating in Match). Morrison is not a morbid man. He feels it is a wonderful achievement to guide the ball to the long on fence for a single run-Hitting a DEEEEAAALLLLLFFFFF maximum deserves nothing short of a Nobel prize. On a scale of 1-10 for emotions defined for a normal human being, Danny scores at least a fifty…A Ciiiitiiii Moment of Successss…!!!! I may differ with others on this, but I feel that such extravagant display of emotions does seem to become a little irritated at times. We have experienced boring cliche statements from RS or amusing ones from CSK follower Siva at one end while we are subjected to this unnecessary adrenaline rush at the other.

Swinging fortunes of the teams are enough to keep you engaged. Swinging emotions from one icon to another have added spice to IPL. The excitement, drama, emoticons have made the IPL a truly great Indian reality show...Ye IPL hai boss…!!!!
