Ilia Malinin's Family

Ilia Malinin is a figure skater from the United States. The official website of Team USA states that he is the only athlete to cleanly land all six quadruple jump categories in a single program. His last name is referenced in his hallmark technique, "Raspberry Twist." His last name, "Malina," comes from the Russian word for raspberry.

Ilia Malinin started skating at the age of six. In addition to being the 2023 World champion and the 2022–2023 Grand Prix Final bronze medalist, he has also won the 2022 U.S. national silver medal and the 2023, 2024, and 2025 U.S. national champion titles.

Roman Skorniakov is the father of Ilia Malinin. Skorniakov was the Uzbek national champion from 1997 to 2003. He participated for Russia at first, but in 1996 he changed to Uzbekistan. He placed 19th in both the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics while representing Uzbekistan. He finished seventh in the 2000 and 2002 Four Continents Championships, which was his best finish at an ISU Championship.

Ilia Malinin's mother is Tatiana Malinina. She used to skate as an Uzbek. The family moved to Tashkent, in the SSR of Uzbekistan, when she was a teenager. After returning to Russia in 1996, Malinina lived in Yekaterinburg until moving to Dale City, Virginia, in 1998. She won the 1999 Grand Prix Final and was the Uzbek national champion ten times (1993–2002).
