During her sophomore year in 2016, she contributed to victories in the Women’s Varsity 8+ at the Husky Open and the Women’s Third Varsity 8+ at various competitions. In her junior year, Thoennes excelled in the Varsity 8+, securing wins at the Pac-12 Challenge, Windermere Cup, Pac-12 Championships, and NCAA Championships. By her senior year in 2018, she earned an Academic All-Pac-12 honorable mention and contributed to the Second Varsity 8+’s gold medal at the NCAA Championships.
