Kara Michelle Kohler is an American professional rower. Born in Clayton, California, Kara Kohler was a competitive swimmer at her high school, where she took part in the 2008 Janet Evans Grand Prix Swim Meet held at USC and the 2008 Pacific Swimming North America Cup Challenge. During her sophomore year in high school, one of her family friends recommended she try rowing at the collegiate level and took her to the University of Berkeley, where Kara Kohler started her rowing career.

In 2019, Kara Kohler was named US Rowing’s Female Athlete of the Year. Kara Kohler has been a four-time All-American, she was also named the Pac-10 Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2010 and achieved Cal’s Most Promising Award. One of her remarkable achievement is bronzemedal which she won at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the quadruple sculls event. In 2021, she won the USA Olympic Trials race for single sculls to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

Kara Kohler has American nationality. She has qualified for the third time in the United States Olympic rowing team at the 2024 U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials, Rowing in Sarasota, Florida. In her initial two years of rowing, Kohler successfully joined the United States team of under-23. Kohler was named to a Division I first team, as an All-American and represented America in the 2012 Summer Olympics in the quadruple sculls event, where she won the bronze medal. Kara Kohler has also represented America in the World Championship and won the gold medal in the coxless four and a bronze medal in the single sculls. In 2019, Kara Kohler was named as US Rowing’s Female Athlete of the Year. She received training under national coaches, Josy Verdonkschot and Petr Mansfield.

A family friend had suggested looking into rowing collegiately, which opened the path to becoming a recruited walk-on at the University of California, Berkeley. Kara Kohler took a year break from school to train with the U.S. In college, she was under the training of the head coach of the University of California, Berkeley - Dave (O’Neill). In her sophomore year, Kohler won at the Pac-10 Championships and the dual meets, which were against the Stanford and Washington National Team for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games held in London.
