William Bender is an American rower, he was a senior at Dartmouth College in 2023. William is from Norwich, Vermont. Bender's initial collegiate journey was strenuous as he was sidelined from the Dartmouth freshman rowing roster. After months of hard work and preparation, he secured his position on the roster. These efforts paid off when Bender turned out to become one of the great athletes who went on to win Second Team IRCA All-America honors in 2021 and also rowed at the World Rowing U23 Championships.

Bender's rowing career began at Hanover High, where he captained the crew and alpine ski teams. He started rowing first as a hobby, eventually realizing his potential. He took a gap year to focus more on technique by joining the UK rowing club before attending Dartmouth. The experiences and expertise of the coaches enabled him to excel in rowing. Results of those fierce efforts include two gold medals won in pair competitions, one at the 2023 US Rowing Senior National Team Trials and a second at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

In 2024, he was part of the Paris Summer Olympics, where he rowed in the men's pair with Oliver Bub, a fellow Dartmouth graduate. With all his difficulties and determination, his dream to represent his country at the Olympics came true. Bender's transformation from not getting a spot on the collegiate roster to being an Olympic contender mirrors his journey of diligence, commitment, and support from his family and coaches.
